Post#1 » by sixersinsider » Thu Mar 13, 2008 9:42 pm

The Question Will not be......will the sixers Upgrade their talent level this summer .....But where....(what position).......I m not satisfied with lou wills development this year (will he be better then rondo or steve blake) (I am patiently waiting for a Break out Game... 30 pts...(On 19 or less Intelligent shots) ( A dominate game.................or even half of brillant create your own shot offennsive mastery) Will Sweet lou ever be capapble of a..... break out game... The sixers will be greatly improved with a proven Instant o type Guy coming off the bench in the playoffs (If the opportunity presents it self ( or since the organiztion is going in a new direction)(make the opportunity present itself :banghead: ).. Lets End the lou Will Investment..... cash out this summer..... The sixers Should not hesitae to Upgrade the role that lou william plays on this team For those that dont know his role is$$$$$$ (INSTANT O)$$$$$$$$

Lou has lots of work to do, but its way to early to put a ceiling on his game. At 21 Iguodala had zero offensive game. Not everyone can coe in the league and tear it up at 20 like AI or Lebron. Normal players take a few years to find their way.

Maybe he won't break out until he is as old as Carney (24 in 3 wks.) My guess is that now that he has about a season of regular playing time we can expect him to break out towards the end of next season when he is 22 years old.

Lou already has scored 19pts in a competitive 4th quarter- I don't worry about him being able to go for 30. Mo would take him out if he was putting up 20 shots.

He's productive in his backup role, still very young, relatively inexpensive, and hasn't come close to hitting his prime yet.

Even if he's never going to become a starting quality PG, at worst he'll end up being a very solid backup PG/SG Bobby Jackson type, which is still a very useful player to have.

im not quite sure what everyone expected out of lou this season...he has matched/exceeded my expectations of what a 6'0 guard out of high school w limited pro experience would do having minutes for the first time

lou makes some questionable decisions but thats to be expected of a player of his nature...if anyone remembers the early iverson years, he was the same way (albeit with more natural talent and offensive ability)

lou is a nice combo guard and at this point is nothing more than that...maybe he improves, if not he is what bobby jackson has made a career out of and that is a change of pace bench guard who will play half a game...not a bad asset to have

Lou Williams will most certainly be a better NBA guard than Steve Blake. He may not become a better settup man than Steve. I believe calling Steve Blake a point guard is a bit of a stretch because he's not good enough or large enough of a factor in the league to call him a true PG which is like a MAJOR compliment in my book. Lou Williams is already a better and tougher defender than Blake and he has a better driving ability. Steve Blake has the setup ability over Lou Will and the jump shot. Lou Williams will never be better than Rondo. I see Lou Williams developing into a guard that's like Kenny Smith or Mike James.

Rondo
Lou Williams
Steve Blake

That's how they will end their careers in that order.

In my opinion, point guards are not judged by how productive THEY are but by how productive THEIR TEAMMATES are. Point guards need only to be able to score when not defended well. They need to be able to go to the basket if allowed to and be able to knock down the mid-range jumper if allowed to shoot it. Other than that, they just need to make their teammates better. Lou Williams does not do those things well ... yet ... but he is young and has an excellent situation in which to learn ... with Andre Miller and Mo Cheeks in his camp. I think he will be just fine.

Wait... LouWill is a PG? He sure as hell doesn't look one to me. Sure he's small but height has little to do with this.-

this is absurd.

the guy has a ton of talent and has been awesome this season. no one expected him to do even half as well as he has been. he has far exceeded expectations and he's proven that he can play in the NBA. he's 21. he never played college basketball. give him a break. the fact that he can even play at all in the NBA is impressive enough. not too many high schoolers make it in the league. especially ones drafted 45th.

Two questions...

Haven't you ever heard of 'born again point guards'??

Wouldn't 'great' point guards be born already 'great' and 'good' point guards be born already 'good'?

This is a ridiculous thread, IMO.

Lou Williams is a productive NBA player...good enough to be in the 7-8 man rotation of many NBA teams. My biggest fear is what has been said in other recent threads - that some team is going to hit him with an offer sheet that will take control of his salary away from us. Even if all he becomes is a 20-25 minute combo 3rd guard, that is GREAT.

For a high scool kid who was the 45th pick in the draft...quite a find.

Will he/can he be a 35+minute PG in the NBA? I don't know. I kinda doubt it (due to his size and what would be the sheer waste of his natural ability to get any shot he wants (no small feat for a 6-1 guy, as Sixers fans should all know). Frankly, I don't know what the guy's ceiling is, but even if he simply continues to refine the toolbox he has and gets more experience, he should have a solid NBA career - which is probably a lot more than people thought a year ago.

And, quite frankly, given our struggles in the half-court, his ability to get his shot is something that the Sixers need...he just needs more experience, that's all.

Could he break into the starting line-up for any other team?

Everybody wants to use Lou Williams age as an excuse. Nevermind that Thad is a year out of high school and already a starter.

How much are you going to have to pay this guy since he will be a RFA?

Lou's probably a player you let the market set his price...he's young, he's been inconsistent, he's not really a PG, and not big enough to be a stud SG. That being said, he's displayed some potential and has improved, so there will be some interest. You want to re-sign him, but don't need to break the bank for him. Contract extensions for young players are risky...that's why Ed gets paid the big bucks...to make these types of decisions.

Great point

I dislike when people try to give 24 year old Iguodala extra credit for being a young player OVERLOOKING his deficiencies as if the NBA hasn't had 19 year old ALL STARS...

So by that logic, Young will never be as good as prince. A 29 year old Prince isolated and abuse Young on several possessions. Iguess he'll never be a good defender? Give me a break.

Just because HOF players like Shaq, Lebron and Magic can come in a take the league by storm does not mean that most players don't improved dramatically from 19->26.

That doesn't mean every mediocre 20 year old will be a star, but its shortsighted to presume authoritatively that these players have maxed out their potential.
