At this point in the season this game means a lot more to SA, who just feel behind Houston.

I would bet money on SA winning this one.

^I would too.

It certainly feels like we are gonna finish this season half heartedly. I have been on record as saying that I REALLY wish we wouldnt do that, but theres noting to be done for it.

Oh well.

I'm wondering if we show up for this game. Even if we win, it's pretty pathetic to lose to Philly and beat the Spurs. We need to beat the Spurs just to make up for the Wednesday night debacle.

The San Antonio Spurs will be without forward Ime Udoka for at least the next two games due to a right ankle injury, the team announced Thursday.

Udoka is suffering from tarsal tunnel syndrome in his right ankle and he received anti-inflammatory shots on Thursday which are designed to decrease inflammation.

Udoka will miss the remaining two games on the Spurs current three-game road trip. He is expected to be available when the Spurs return home to take on the Boston Celtics on Monday. In 57 games this season, Udoka is averaging 5.4 points and 3.0 rebounds.

HUNTER TIME? Last time the Pistons played the Spurs, point guard Lindsey Hunter provided a spark down the stretch. Hunter hasn't played since then, with Saunders repeatedly saying he has no timetable for getting him back into the rotation.

Might that change today?

"I don't know, I'll have to talk to Joe (Dumars)," Saunders said. "See what Joe thinks."

The Detroit Pistons have come to expect Western Conference foes to play their best when they come to town. But considering how tight things are in the Western Conference these days -- only 4.5 games separate the top eight tams -- the Pistons anticipate an even tougher battle with each of their next three games against Western Conference squads that are knee-deep in the race to the playoffs.

For a Detroit team that seems to frequently raise its level of play only when challenged by another top-flight squad, this is exactly what Flip Saunders' crew needs. "We're playing teams right now where the next three games, they really have a sense of urgency," Saunders said. "So we have to match that sense of urgency." For the moment, Detroit's focus will be on today's opponent, San Antonio.

The Spurs come into today's game having lost by 25 points to the New Orleans Hornets on Wednesday. Not including games played on Thursday, the Spurs are one game behind the Los Angeles Lakers for the best record in the Western Conference. One of San Antonio's strengths this season has been the play of Manu Ginobili, who is San Antonio's top scorer (20.4 points per game) despite starting just 21 games. "He's playing at an unbelievable level right now," Saunders said of Ginobili. "Plus they're bringing him off the bench. So when he does get on the floor, a lot of times he's going against second-tier guys." Tayshaun Prince will be among the Detroit players to spend some time on guarding Ginobili on Friday. And Prince, like Saunders, expects tonight's game to be a good one. "It doesn't matter when we play them, whenever we play them, it presents a good game," Prince said. "(Friday's game) should be even better knowing we lost and they lost."

Hunter active?: The Pistons know at some point soon, Lindsey Hunter is going to have to start getting back on the floor. Saunders wouldn't rule out the possibility of playing Hunter on Friday against San Antonio, especially consider how well Hunter played defensively when the two met on Jan. 10. In that game, Hunter had six points in just seven minutes of action. He also did a solid job of pestering San Antonio's ball-handlers into turnovers, or not allowing them to start running their set plays as quickly as they normally do.

Dealing with Bowen : It's not unusual for teams to game-plan around how to deal with a big-time scorer. Apparently, the same holds true for defensive-minded players like Bruce Bowen. "The biggest difference with him, is they put him on who they think they have stop. What it does do if he takes a perimeter guy or one of your guards, it puts Tony Parker on somebody different; it puts him on a bigger-type guy."

Odds and ends: Rasheed Wallace was back to practice on Thursday after missing two of Detroit's previous three games due to a sprained left ankle injury. ... Detroit is looking to sweep the regular season series with San Antonio for the second time in the past three seasons. ... Former Indiana men's basketball coach Kelvin Sampson is spending his free time these days around the Spurs at the invitation of their coach, Gregg Popovich. Sampson, who was fired by the University amid recruiting violations, does not apparently have an official title with the Spurs. It is unclear if he'll be with the team on Friday.

If you haven't heard, the league did suspend San Antonio's Bruce Bowen for the game against the Pistons tonight. Bowen got irritated in the loss at New Orleans Wednesday and kicked Chris Paul.

It's a costly suspension for a couple of reasons, the least of which is the $373,000 it will cost him. It ends Bowen's consecutive games played streak at 500. It was the longest active streak in the league. I thought for a minute that Tayshaun Prince would assume the No. 1 streak. He's at 394. Philly's Andre Miller is at 431, but he hurt his back against the Pistons Wednesday. I talked to reporter Phil Jasner in Philly and Miller is expected to play tonight, so Tay moves up to No. 2.But, Prince will now have the longest active streak of consecutive starts. He was No. 2 behind Bowen. I am double-checking the number, but I believe tonight will be Tay's 338th straight start. Bowen had started 500 straight.

Losing Bowen hurts the Spurs badly, too, because back-up small forward Ime Udoka was sent back to San Antonio to treat an injured right ankle. That means Michael Finley will have to play longer minutes, as well as Manu Ginobili. Ginobili has been complaining about soreness in his back, legs and bruised hip. All of that should be good news for Prince and Rip Hamilton. Any time you don't have to deal with the pesty play of Bowen, life is good.

The skinny: The Pistons lost at home to a team with 16 fewer wins. The Spurs scored 75 points and suffered their worst defeat of the season. Not usually how we enter a Pistons-Spurs matchup, is it? That

Bruce Bowen of San Antonio, who has the longest active consecutive games played streak in the NBA, won't play Friday night after he was suspended earlier in the day.

Bowen was suspended one game without pay for using his leg to hit New Orleans Hornets guard Chris Paul in a game Wednesday night. A foul was called on Paul in the third quarter and Bowen retaliated by kicking Paul.

The Spurs are in Detroit for a game Friday night. Bowen began his streak on Feb. 28, 2002. Bowen has played and started 500 straight games, the most in the league. It began on Feb. 28, 2002.The longest consecutive games streak will now be owned by Andre Miller, who has 431 consecutive games played and 430 consecutive starts.Besides his streak, Bowen will lose about $373,000.

Jeez, Bowen has got to be one of the biggest thugs in the league. He doesn't get as much press because, unlike a Ron Artest, he isn't a cancer. But Bowen is one mean, nasty dude. Never liked him.
