No way, Deron+ AL would of guaranteed playoffs last year for us and many returns [happy or not undetermined]

Yeah, the article suggests Deron. Ainge never states it. I am pretty sure we would have taken CP.

I am still glad we took the route we did though.

Wasn't their some deal in place a pick and Deng for Pierce?

I think the best part of the article is the point about Pierce emulating Allen. I've noticed how Pierce now has a foul shooting ritual, just like Allen and most great golf putters.

I think the trades have been great for Pierce's development as a person and a player. 84.5% this year versus 79.6% last year.

The Deron Williams speculation is probably based on the fact that he ended up being the third overall pick and not based on what Ainge would have drafted. I remember around the draft that Ainge was really high on Chris Paul and I thought rumors of a Chris Paul/Paul Pierce trade rumor were fairly well known.

I know it's pointless to go into what ifs, but in 2006 we would have had a higher pick without Pierce and possibly selected and kept Brandon Roy, making the Roy/Paul backcourt that worked so well in the all star game a consistent reality. Then of course in 2007, maybe the balls would have bounced differently and we could have Durant or Oden in the mix as well, giving the C's a starting five of Paul, Ray, Durant/second 2005 1st rounder (not saying Gerald because Danny may have possibly put all his stock into the future and trade up for someone like Granger), Jefferson, Perk/Oden.

Of course, that's just a what if and a nice lineup for the next decade, but I'd actually prefer winning now and I'm happy with KG, Paul, and Ray.

we knew this long time ago, and the deal didn't happen b/c Paul said he wouldn't report.

Why is the media bringing this up? why do they have to distract the players with stuff like this?

Man I love Deron. It would've been nice to see Deron and Big Al form a duo for the Celtics. Then again, the whole purpose is to win a championship, and we have a team in place to do so.

if Boston doesn't win a championship......it would be real interesting to have seen what Deron or CP could've done with big Al, especially in the watered down east

Bringing the story again before we face the Jazz is kind of cheap, huh? But expected... :)

Pierce for pick 3 and Nick Van Exel's contract- we wanted Travis Outlaw, too, and would've taken Chris Paul. If Granger had somehow dropped to 18 instead of Green, CP, Outlaw, Granger, Al, Perk would've been fun to watch. Rather have things the way they've turned out, tho

Woulda, shoulda coulda. Who cares! We have the best team in the league now. Does anyone think we would have the best team in the league and a great chance to win a championship had Paul been traded? Hell no!

I LOVE the team we have and couldn't care less what "could have been", especially given the situation the Celtics are in now. Why would anyone want to dream about any different scenario?

That would have been a pretty sick team, but the Pierce, Allen, KG Celtics would destroy the CP/Deron, Jefferson Celtics.

Perk vs. Perk
Big Al vs. KG
Gomes vs. Pierce
Randy Foye (assuming we keep that pick) vs. Ray Allen
Rondo vs Deron/CP

That team would have upside, but would do anything for a few years.

Keep in mind that if you guys made that trade, then you probably wouldn't have traded for Telfair the next year and ended up getting Roy or Gay instead :o

But in either scenario you guys turn out great, but I must say that as a Blazer fan, I'm very glad this deal didn't go down (as nice as it would've been to have Pierce)

It's pointless engaging in hypotheticals; as someone already pointed out Pierce went on record saying he wouldn't report back when we were in full "Shop Pierce NOW to Bad Team X for Lottery Pick Y".
