Phoenix Suns Run The Triangle Offense?

Post#1 » by JordansBulls » Fri Mar 14, 2008 4:49 pm

Source: AZCentral

Breaking news. The Suns are running the triangle offense.

"They run the triangle offense now a little bit," Golden State coach Don Nelson said. "They get into it a little bit different than the Lakers do. They get in through the flex cuts but it's still the triangle. They're going to O'Neal as a passer. It looked good the last game. I'm sure they'll do more of it."

D'Antoni said the Suns have one play that could be deemed the triangle offense.

Nelson was surprised Phoenix acquired O'Neal but is sure his former Dallas point guard, Steve Nash, will make it work.

"Great players playing with other great players always make great music," Nelson said.

D'antoni is a one trick pony with his run and none offense. He couldn't find any offensive schemes to integrate shaq into the offense, so he borrowed some from Phil. :wavefinger:

I they want to run it they can, but it takes years to fully understand it. Shaq may know the triangle offence but the others will have to learn it and if the coach doesn't know the offence then how in the hell will he teach them.

Bryant, Odom, Walton, Fisher, Bynum, Farmar, Vujacic, Radmanovic Turiaf, Mihm and Phil thats our whole roster other than Gasol and Ariza to the Suns one player Shaq. The only time to run it is when Nash is on the bench, which is almost never.

I've seen other NBA teams run parts of the triangle as well. A lot of teams will take one aspect of the triangle and use it as a set play. You see this a bit in the D-League too, because the triangle is an excellent offense to develop players with. Everybody handles the ball and learns to make decisions in the triangle. It beats telling your big men to camp out down low and crash the glass. When Nellie says they run it a little bit, I'm sure he just means they have a triangle set they call 10 times a game. I'm curious to check out the Suns now to see how and when they use it.

The Sac Kings started doing the same thing after we started kicking their ass.

Lots of teams use bits and pieces of the triangle... been that way for years...

Thats like saying the Lakers use pick and roll... Of course they do... Every team does... when a smart coach sees something that works, he's obviously gonna use it

Triangle offense is a difficult system for players to adapt to. I don't understand why he's trying to make it work this late in the season. This has bad idea written all over it.
