Shaq getting only 1 MVP will....

Post#1 » by Kid Vicious » Fri Mar 14, 2008 10:42 pm

Go down as being the biggest travesty in the NBA.

Shaq, in his prime, was the most dominant, spectacular physical specimen in all of professional sports.

And he only has 1 MVP??????

By my count, he should have had 4. The 3 years he lead the Lakers to a championship, and the year he led the absolutely horrible Orlando Magic to the NBA finals.

It's a shame the greatest player of our generation only has 1 MVP. Sure, Duncan is 'The Big Fundamental'. But to compare the two players is an absolute joke. The fact that Duncan has more MVPs than Shaq is absurd.

Shaq = The Greatest Player of our Generation.

Well, Shaq/Kobe being together hurt them in terms of MVP..people didnt want it to give it to Shaq cause he had Kobe.

We're talking about Shaq & Duncan, not Oliver Miller & Samuel Dalembert, here.

How is that an "absolute joke"? :dontknow:

The MVP is a regular-season award, so Shaq leading the Magic to the Finals has absolutely no bearing.

If so, Olajuwon (27.8 ppg, 10.8 rpg, 3.5 apg, 3.4 bpg, 1.8 spg) would have been a much better choice after leading the sixth-seeded Rockets to their second-straight championship. As it was, David Robinson had an outstanding season en route to leading the Spurs to a league-high 62 victories. A solid choice.

Shaq probably should have won in 01 (missed only eight games, performance was just a hair off his near-unanimous-MVP season the year before) but he was hurt by the fact that the Lakers had an inconsistent regular season. They were 48-26 and engulfed in the Kobe-Shaq turmoil before winning their last eight and turning it on in the post season. In hindsight, Iverson (31 ppg on 42 percent shooting) seems pretty weak.

His performance dipped a bit in 02, but what hurt his chances more than anything was the fact that he missed 15 games, nearly 20 percent of the schedule. That's pretty damning.

You could make a case for 2005, when the Heat improved by 17 after his acquisition from the Lakers. His numbers, however, were relatively pedestrian by his standards (23 ppg, 10.4 rpg).

Too injury prone
Attitude issues

I don't consider any of his campaigns after 2002-2003 as unworthy of consideration. His MVP total is accurate and not a travesty.

Nash winning 2 MVPs
Shaq winning only 1
Kobe having none

Duncan never winning the DPOY
Rodman not in HOF
Phil Jackson never winning COY

I agree besides the Shaq vs Duncan being a joke. I think Shaq is clearly the better player but Duncan is also one of the 20 best players in NBA history

Hard to give a COY to a coach who ALWAYS had a player like MJ, Pippen, Kobe, Shaq, Gasol, etc...

Phil Jackson won in 95-96
Duncan isn't the best defensive player in the league
Rodman isn't in the hall because of his attitude
Kobe hasn't deserved the MVP until this year
Shaq only had one year when he was the most valuable
Nash isn't the most valuable player?

Nash won twice, so its pretty evident the MVP is a joke award so who cares.
