How do you guys do it?

Post#1 » by otmshank1 » Thu Mar 13, 2008 3:38 pm

How on earth are you guys contenders when your okur and boozer are horrible defenders? I am a bucks fan and I think we have talented team but yet we suck in the east. Bogut and charlie V are equally as bad defenders as boozer and okur and yet compare the records. I dont know too much about the jazz so I was just inquiring on how you pull it together. And please, I know deron is the man so dont give me this deron>>>>williams stuff!

Our offense is better?

Okur isn't terrible, just not good. Boozer is terrible.

Lol i laughed at Deron>>>>>>>Williams and then i realized he was talking about Mo Williams. But seriously i think it has something to do with Boozer and Okur being better offensively. And Okur really isnt THAT bad, he played Yao well during the playoffs last year. Boozer is horrible however he does seem to get more steals now. Also I think Jerry Sloan's system could be a big part of it.

Better TEAM defense. We go through periods of time where our team defense is amazing (see Denver game). We just turn it on and off. Boozer and Okur both played GREAT defense in the playoffs last year too. Does anyone remember that vicious swat Booze had on Duncan?

To sum it up, it just a matter of focus. When Boozer and Memo focus they play good D, they just dont do it all the time, especially against teams like the Bucks.

It's true, neither are terrible defenders when they try hard, and watching the playoffs last year they both really turned it on and were better then average.

If Boozer were to give 100% on the both sides of the floor every night, I honestly think he would be considered the best big man in the league right now, if you watch the Houston series replays on youtube, the guy was so dominant it was amazing.

And I know you said not too, but the truth is Deron Williams really is that much better then he gets credit for, he always seems to do whatever he has to to get the Jazz to win when it counts.

Im talking about defense not offense. Bogut also shows signs of being a good defender and he has actually increased his blocks considerably this year. I would rather have bogut over okur, because bogut is a legit center in this league and given the right coach could turn a team around. But seriously, is it sloan? What kind of defense does he run?

I think there was a time where the jazz would have done it. But with the improvement of Ronnie Brewer over the offseason as well as the acquisition of Kyle Korver, Redd wouldn't be worth giving up AK for IMO.

We don't want Redd because we really don't need a scorer, we're first in field goal % and 5th in points. He is one of our 2 best defenders, and contibutes in ways few players can.

I love the username man! "Otm Shank. He is India's answer to Brian Dennehey...Otm Shank!"

As for your question, I think the key is your team is run by selfish, stat stuffing brats like Mo Williams and Mike Redd, who just chuck in the 4th quarter. This has the effect on guys like Charlie Bell and Villanueva to just shoot whenever they touch it. Bad chemistry. Mo William is CANCER imo. I know you asked about defense, but I am telling you the problem is offense and chemistry.

If I were Bogut, I would ask privately for a trade and point out that I am not being used for the things I was drafted for.....

Well we may not be the best defensive team in the league, but:

3rd most steals in the game
Out rebound our opponents by 2.39, good for 5th in the league
We're the efficient shooting team from the field @ .496
5th in the league in scoring @ 106.22
Out score teams by 5.95, the 4th biggest margin in the league
26.39 assists a game is good for 2nd

Best home court advantage in the NBA
Great coach in Jerry Sloan

We have some good defenders, Okur is great vs certain bigs (like Yao), Deron holds many opponents to numbers lower than their averages, Brewer is great at getting steals and creating fast breaks, Kirilenko is obviously one of the best defenders in the league (though a shadow of his former self), and Millsap is quickly becoming a force on defense with 1.2spg and 2bpg in his last 5.with just 22.6 minutes a game!

As much as I like Redd, his scoring production would drop to like 16-18ppg on our team if we traded AK, and given that AK is better than Redd in every other category, I'm not so sure it's the best move for us. We get better offensively, but much worse defensively, which is definitely moving in the wrong direction for Utah.

Man, sometimes zones. We pretty much strive on outscoring teams, but at home we're pretty much the complete package.

The Jazz it seems, have a bad habit of playing down to the competition, especially on the road. Like it or not Deron is pretty damn good.

I don't mean to knock the Bucks...I actually like a lot of guys on your team. But the main problem is that you guys don't have ANY particularly good defenders.

You had terrible defence last year...and the three best defenders on your team by FAR were Charlie Bell (at PG), Brian Skinner (up front) and Ruben Patterson (on the wing). Skinner left for nothing, Patterson left for nothing, and Bell only came back because your team matched his offer sheet (and then he pouted for a few months). Replacing them with Samaki Walker and Desmond Mason wasn't exactly going to help things.

We at least are able to run Kirilenko, Brewer and Deron (who is weak against small quick PGs, but pretty good against big strong ones) out there most of the time. And we have a strong identity, put in by a very strong-willed coach (whether one likes him or not). The Bucks just seem a little aimless to me (and I'm admittedly an outsider).

Again, I'm not trying to gloat at all! I like a lot of your guys. It's just poor team construction...I hope you guys figure out the weaknesses soon and can bring some winning basketball back to Milwaukee.

Yeah I think ak-47 is the x-factor on your team, sure his production has dropped but man that guy is a blocking machine. And you all are totally right about the bucks, absolutely no defense!!! Our GM is a pat swayze wannabe and we have a rookie head coach and a bunch of young players, doesnt make much sense. The talent is there but we just need a savior like don neslon or rick james.

The sad thing is I believe that all of our young talent will be gone. Bogut is already pouting and Yi is acting like a 12 year old girl. And our management has too much pride to give up on Yi, so we will lose Charlie V via FA. It pisses me off so much, I love my team but they havent done anything since the big-3. Sometimes I want to give up, but I am what I am, a f***ing bucks fan! You're team is great and Deron is the real deal, all you are missing is a defensive big and a pure shooter (take michael redd!!!) :)
