He hasn't won a playoff series. This list is based on playoff success. I saw this last week and its not a big deal. If you dont understand why then you don't understand how players are judged in this sport. They are judged in the playoffs.

He did receive some votes... I think many will consider him as a SG. He's been playing at that position in Orlando and now in Houston.
I find it amusing how they ranked Gervin over Drexler. Plus, I see Monroe as more of a PG.
Another thing to note is how the hell Maravich cracked the top 10. That just proves he's the most overrated player to ever play in this league. Same can be said about Reggie...
EDIT: Top 10 talent? No doubt. But this is a list of accomplishments and success. It's about making a name for yourself, chasing championships, making major impact in the league. McGrady doesn't deserve to be named top 10 ever. At least not now. Dude needs serious improvement on his resume.

But neither does Maravich or Miller, both those guys on the list is just pathetic.

I agree... I think Sam Jones and Sidney Moncrief should be in the Top 10 in lieu of those guys.
EDIT: Moncrief is arguably the greatest perimeter defender of all-time and he's been consider a serious MVP candidate for few seasons.

If it's about achievements, no way should Maravich be on that list. Dude never accomplished anything other than shooting 40% with mediocre turnover ratios. I always hear how he could do things that put Jason Williams to shame, but I've looked for highlight clips of his, and his highlights that I saw weren't even that impressive.

Joe Dumars....

Yep... all good points
After his retirement, Maravich admitted that he played for the fans and NOT for his team. This explains why he averaged low assists but high turnovers considering he was their 'start' point guard. He tended to overdo things on the court with his through the legs, behind the back passes. As a result of doing such things, he was hated by his teammates. It really doesn't surprise me how a once talented player couldn't replicate the same success in the NBA. Like you said, his achievement was almost nothing at the pro level.
I bet his success at the college level had something to do in that top 10 list, when it shouldn't.

I personally believe Dumars was one of the most underrated players to ever play in the NBA. The guy was damn versatile, and you can ask just about anything from him. He's one of those guys who can give you 20+ points or around 7 to 10 assists; not to forget his ability to guard bigger opponents (for example: MJ), and hit clutch threes or free throws. He's one of the few players who can adjust to either guard positions and adjust to whatever role his team needed during games.
EDIT: Quite controversial indeed, but I don't mind him being considered as a top 10 SG of all-time.

Um iggy then wy did Maravich made it? Maravich didn't get out of first rond 8/9 seasons. If you look at his team, his team averages like 32-33 ins and he only MADE the playoffs 3 times his entire career and got out in the frst ruond.
The only ime he got th first round is riding the cotails of Boston and even the e only plaed 28 games.
Sounds ilke a double standard to me...

Here's my take on this.
Greatness, when reflected upon in the past, is really a memory trick of how well you remember somebody. Maravich was a recluse, a player of great scoring prowess, a showman that touched the hearts and souls of a great deal of people. And since he was always viewed as an idiot-savant, his struggles with family latter and after his career were easily forgiven. He was, remembered very very well by basketball fans.
Most people who grew up watching basketball in the 70s remember Maravich as the fanciest guy in the fanciest of leagues. The fact that he was white or not might not have much to do with the preferential treatment now, but back then it did help him stick out. Even Isiah Thomas called him the greatest showman of all time.
Now, I mean, I wanted Fat Lever and Andrew Toney to be remembered somewhere and deep down inside I've always thought Toney never got enough credit for being the player he is. Maravich somehow has won the hearts and minds of a lot of older basketball fans, and sometimes, numbers just don't beat mindshare. I don't think it's fair, but in lieu of his heart condition where he had no left coronary artery (which is why he died at 40), he did what he did on three pipes going to his heart instead of four. That's quite something no matter how you look at it.

A little yeah. But I like him being in the conversation. He has the rings and a small bit 'o individual recognition (Finals MVP) to merit consideration (unlike Miller, who is definitely waaaay overrated).
If T-Mac continues his current level of play and the Rockets go deep into the po's this year and/or next (with a clutch shot or two by T-Mac say), his name will probably enter the conversation as well. Sports lists are such fickle things.

How can career shooting averages of 47% and 40% to go with 25,000 career points can be considered overrated? He played decent defense, just was a subpar rebounder-by-numbers and didn't get many assists (which makes sense since he was usually on the receiving end and played on the perimeter - which lowered his ability to get offensive rebounds).
For overrated SGs, see Iverson. I love watching the guy play, but people loved watching Maravich play too.
I'm not feeling like putting together a big list of SGs and whittling out 10, but I have a good hunch you could do better than that one. Not a fan of their other two lists either.

On (quick) reflection I take back the 'waaaaay' in the 'waaaay overrated'.
However, re:Reggie, here's a Simmons article that is pretty much in alignment with my feeling towards him.

Actually, I absolutely agree with that article. Didn't realize you were just hanging on the "superstar" tag.
Bill Simmons wrote:Reggie may have been a reliable scorer, but he was also a subpar defensive player who didn't rebound or create shots for other players, someone who needed to play in an offense constructed in a specific way so he could succeed.
