I remember being young and knowing VH from my aunt having a big poster of a cherub smoking a cigarette on her door at my grandparents' house, and hearing them and knowing it was something I wasn't supposed to be listening too.

Can't say they inspired me to stick with guitar though. What do yo play? I bought a strat the other day, but I completely suck at playing it.

well according to my wife i have "too many damn guitars". my main axe is a first year peavy wolfgang, ed's signature guitar. i also have 3 ernie ball music man van halen model's from the early 90's. i have a fender fat strat that i have modified with a ducan '59 pickup and a floyd rose. i have a replica van halen kramer, the "5150" that ed used from 84 to around 89. i have my own homemade "frankenstrat" but it's blue instead of red (and it really doesn't play very well). and i have my 2 favorite guitars from when i was growing up in tacoma, playing crappy little gigs bumping into future rock stars like jerry cantrell and sean kinney from Alice In Chains. one is a charvel (in hot pink!) and the other is a hamer steve stevens model i bought from paul hamer himself after he did a guitar clinic at a little music shop called major music in 1988 (actually my dad bought the guitar after i called and literally begged him to come down and write the check). it is a cool guitar, its black with steve stevens signature on the body and LED lights on the neck. i don't play that one any more, it's kind of special, and i just kind of leave it alone.

i also have a couple of knock off strats and a couple of bass guitars lying around. so yeah, i have too many damn guitars.

what did you get sweezo? a new strat? an old one? remember man , no one suck's at playing an instrument. if it sounds good to you, it is good. everyone plays at a different level. i always encourage people to stick with it. there is something very honest and pure about playing an instrument. especially when you do it just for yourself.

How's your version of "Eruption"?
I still always set the volume up to ear splitting levels whenever that number comes on.

its funny you ask that dick. about a week ago i started playing around with Eruption again. i can basically play the whole thing. the last part with all of the hammer-on stuff i can do in my sleep, that and the fan picking and dive bombs have been part of my playing style forever. i used to pretty much rip off the whole thing when i did a solo during shows and nobody could really tell the diference. but i will tell you what, there is some stuff in that piece that to this day i can't really get a handle on. i mean he does some crazy stuff. i have been playing for about 30 years, and i am pretty good, but some of the stuff he does in Eruption is just nuts. i mean, i can do it, but i can't really "do" it, you know? there are plenty of guys that can play the whole thing note for note, but nobody, and i mean nobody can copy ed's feel in that piece. it literally changed the face of modern rock guitar.

OK, since TUZ asked about the election, here's an article from the Wall Street Journal. Scroll down a little and look at their supposed drawing of Obama. Is it just me, or is that actually a picture of Shane Battier?

No offense...but you suck.

I don't know that I have the dedication to mastering the guitar. I am planning on buying a drum kit fairly soon though once I clear out enough space in my storage room. That's an instrument I can pick up pretty quick...

I dunno...I was thinking Smokey Robinson.

BTW I'm an Obama supporter. For me there is no other option, as McCain's become a shill and Hillary's just another cog in the machine. I'm hoping Obama can usher in an era conducive to progressive thinking and genuine diplomacy. Obama's a risk, but at some point America needs to attempt to make a step forward instead of being content with the status quo.

Say, Mods: I'm thinking about doing a name change like Troy McClure did. (I'm Troy McClure! You might know me from such realgm.com handles as Emraldchild....")

I'd like to go with "Ex-hippie." And then I promise I will lose the seizure-inducing Dock Ellis av, since it will no longer be appropriate.

Do you really want to get your name changed? I know most of your post are joke posts so I have to make sure...

"Most"? That's an exaggeration. I like to wisecrack but it's not like I'm wiff or the resident class clown, BenjaminH.

But I'm not joking. I'm not saying I 100% want to do it, but I'd like to see how to get it done. I recall some mod (might have been Sweezo) once telling me it could be done but required some effort. I do think I sometimes give off the wrong impression with this name, which I jokingly adopted when I thought I would be posting once or twice on this forum and then leaving forever (whoops!). With "Ex-hippie," I will be able to retain my deep reservoir of goodwill and ill-will that I have worked so hard to accumulate in various corners of this website, but still change the message somewhat. Or at least that's my theory.

My comment was a poke at the poster from OKC in the other thread saying how he thought that most of your post were joke posts. I guess its not very funny if I have to explain it.

Its not that hard to get your name changed. All we have to do is ask for it.

Oh, that thread. Yeah, I didn't really read what the guy was writing. Something about Oklahoma being a nice place and probably something about eating fried roadkill and squealing like a pig. I don't know. I do know that Sweezo's script was the biggest pile of awesomeness I've seen on this board in I don't know how long.

Well..it HAD to be him. He was the only person we've seen leave the island. I can't wait until thursday so we can see exactly what happened to him.
