Was Devin Harris's ability limited in Big D?

Post#1 » by magicfan4life05 » Sun Mar 16, 2008 2:16 am

I've always thought high draft picks always need to go to teams where they can be the focal point or at least be a major part of the team. Obviously in dallas, he was considered a role player with potential. But it seems with this small sample of games in new jersey he's really putting up some great stats and on top of that they are winning.

Do you think his game was limited in dallas and too restricted offensively?

His stats are actually down from Dallas...

He had a great game tonight, but he was struggling on their West coast trip when the Nets went 0-5.

Too early to say, but seems like he definitely likes the Nets system better from his comments.

He's taken too many 3's on the roadtrip , he's not a great outside shooter. He was like 1-21 or 0-20 on the trip .

But overall he played very good so far.

Of course his abilities were limited.

Now he has a chance to be the 3rd option, instead of the 5th option in Dallas.

He will probably be an All Star in the East next year.

yes.

19 points 8 boards 12 assits WHATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT

he has more freedom and gets to hold the ball more on the nets, you had terry , dirk, howard primarily holding the ball or just isoed, and even when he was playing PG terry was holding the ball 6/10 times.

of course he was held back, avery couldnt trust him for whatever reason, terry has gotten to be unwatchable as a PG this year whereas the past 3 years he was tolerable

His stats aren't really any different than they were in dallas but IMO he'll breakout and a make a few all star teams. He needs to stick to driving to the hoop and his mid range jumper because he's a terrible 3 point shooter...

Of course, let's not forget that in his eight games as a Net so far, he's been absolutely torching everyone from three and his APT is through the roof. Great acquisition for that team.

With an increased role in NJ, it seems like his PG skills have been more pronounced, though the stats don't look much different. I could see him blossoming as a Net.

I don't see Harris becoming an all star. This isn't me being a hypocrite since I didn't think he'd ever be an all star PG in Dallas either.

If only he was playing with a Duncan...

He's still the same player as he was in Dallas, the only difference is that he's on a less restrictive environment so he's much more relaxed and willing to do tricky plays he normally wouldn't get away with.

From the 5 Nets games I've seen, he's carpetbombing jumpers and while it rarely goes in and his mechanics are still terrible, it's good to see that he's at least shooting it with confidence. That right there could be the key towards his progression.

You have to put that in context though.

In the East we have Billups and probuly Areneas.

Then maybe Claderon or TJ Ford. Areneas was injured this year but probuly own't be next year so Harris probuly doesn't have a shot. But it's that close from an all-star PG to a situation where Harris might get in.

Really?
Ahead of whom?
Gilbert Arenas will be healthy, Chauncey Billups is going nowhere. One of Jose Calderon or TJ Ford could make the team, as well, and were candidates this year. Mike Bibby, Andre Miller, and Mo Williams are also contenders if their respective teams improve.
Dwyane Wade, Vince Carter, Richard Hamilton, Joe Johnson, Ray Allen, Jamal Crawford, Mike Dunleavy, and Jason Richardson are other *guards* that could take all-star spots over Devin Harris.
