Hedo and the Most Improved Award

Post#1 » by Gerhalt11 » Sun Mar 16, 2008 2:50 am

I know there have been a few threads on this, but let's be honest: I'm too lazy to go back and find one.

To put to bed any doubt as to whether or not Hedo is eligible for the MIP award, this is from today's edition of the Weekend Dime:

Marc Stein wrote:I am happy to report that my premonitions about Orlando's Hedo Turkoglu were way, way off.

The league office confirmed this week that Turkoglu is indeed more than eligible to win the NBA's Most Improved Player award.

So ...

You can still debate whether Hedo is the most improved player on his own team, given the progress made by Dwight Howard this season. But since Howard was already an All-Star -- which is bound to rule him out with some voters even though he's made that most challenging leap to the stratosphere of MVP candidate -- there's little question that Turkoglu's improvement has been more pronounced.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/dailydime ... -080315-16

So Stein sounds pretty sold that Turk should get it.

Turkoglu has had a breakout year, but I don't think he will win the award. At this point in the season, I think it is Chris Kaman's to lose. He fits the MIP profile so well, and the numbers he's putting up this season (16 ppg 13 rpg 3 bpg 2 apg) vs. last season (10 ppg 8 rpg 1.5 bpg 1 apg) automatically make him a front-runner.

I'm sorry but what has howard improved on???

his FTs are still crap, there's no jumpshot, nothing 2 feet away from the basket, it's still all alley-oops and dunks for him. his game is still 99% athleticism...i love the kid, but cmon

Yeah, come on guys. Dwight has no offensive game, he's all athleticism, a rookie Oden is better than him, we overpaid too much for Rashard, so we can't improve the things we need, we only have one big man, we have a crappy backcourt, we always play bad after starting off so good, we chuck up too many 3's, and we'll be lucky to finish 36-46.

Keep that criticism coming.

Because he's clearly played better in nearly every facet of the game? Except maybe FTs.

what's scary is that w/out all the things I mentioned he is still so dominant. but his improvement in numbers is natural from having more NBA experience, and the coaching...

dwight has improved more than hedo. dwights improvement was expected. hedos improvement was just more of a shock. if it wasn't for dwight nobody would even talk about hedo because orlando would suck.

idc who wins it, as long as we win some playoff games...if hedo gets it, it would be cool, but kaman is having a great year, granted he has missed some time and was putting up solid numbers before last season...oh to hell with it, hedo deserves that damn award and we all know it, he's better at every facet of the game across the board...ray allen played in tha ASG instead of hedo and hedo's numbers are better across the board...that award belongs to hedo
I live rent free in your head. You know who you are :D

Not changing this sig until Magic win a championship. Started 6/26/2015.

HEDO has been a 4th quarter stud! That's what no one is talking about... check his numbers. I think he was/is 3rd in most points scored in the 4th qtr. He's 1st in points scored in the 4th for the Magic and has a nak to make it happen late in the game. Turk scored 9 points in the last 5 minutes of last nights game (vs Pacers)... whoever says that he doesn't deserve this award over who? Kaman? must not be looking at ALL the numbers.

how hard is it to improve on the clippers?? :D

does any1 else find this award really meaningless? I couldn't care less who gets this award, and I think it should just be given to sophomores, meaning the player that made the best jump from his rookie season.

meaningless maybe, unless you're the one who gets it. since it exists, it should be done right.

Hedo needs to get it, specially after the AS snub.

Let me ask you this.. who though Dwight would breakout this year? Everybody, he clearly had the skills and work ethic.

Now who though in their wildest dreams that Hedo would be an allstar and our most clutch player? Especially after last year? He's improved in all areas.

I hope Hedo does get the award, but I still think Calderon or Rudy Gay will snag it from him.
Again, Mr. 4th Quarter is 3rd in the league behind LeBron and Kobe in 4th quarter points.

Hedo or Calderon gets the award.

No offense, but that doesn't even make much sense, dude. =/

There is no way in hell that Dwight has improved as much as Turk. Hedo went from a DECENT starter on this team to a star in one years time. He takes all of our big shots and is often the facilitator on offense.

Turk is the leagues most improved player. Hands down. He didn't just elevate his game, but brought it to an entirely new level.
