LMAO. What a pathetic showing from Kobe. 11-33. Hey eatyourchildren, still think he's playing the best ball of his career?. How many times should I repeat that you don't ever confuse a team's significant increase in talent with a superstar playing the best ball of his career? Everything I said the other day was visible in Kobe's game today. Looking slow off the dribble, inability to explode and inability to raise performance on command. He also couldn't "improve his teammates" for some reason

05-06 was Kobe at his peak. This Kobe, while still great and Top 3 in the league, no longer has the athleticism to be that good.

TMac doesnt deserve MVP I'm sorry.. hes been pretty good this year but nothing special, and half of the streak is with Yao.. the bench is playing amazing and TMac happens to be the best player on the team.

Of course, after one bad game, obviously he isn't MVP. Love your logic, what else you got up your sleeve genius.

Yeah, by his logic, Lebron should be out of the top 5 w/ his team's pathetic back-to-back losses to the Nets and Wizards. And didn't Paul lose today, too?

Anyway, w/ their teams losing a few games in the past week, there's really no clear favorite in the MVP race right now (between those 3). So this next week will be very important for all of them to reestablish their dominance... and maybe even KG and/or T-Mac can crack the top 3 if Lebron, Kobe, and CP3 continue to lose?

As long as the Rockets are winning, I could care less if Tmac is the MVP, but for the love of God, stop acting like one guy is far and away the only front runner when thats hardly true.
Notes: Rookie Rudy Gay twisted his left ankle trying to guard McGrady late in the third quarter and limped to the bench. He returned with 5:51 left, then returned to the bench about a minute later - http://www.nba.com/games/20061231/MEMHOU/recap.html

Kobe had a terrible shooting night. I think this game doesn't define his MVP performance throughout the season at all. This was just a bad game for him with great defense being played. He will recover, he's my MVP along with T-Mac (if he somehow gets it over the people he's below).

Was in NYC, didn't watch the game. I never disputed that Kobe's slower or that he can't explode as well. I don't see how that makes him a worse player, however, given the increases in his other skills.

When did i ever "confuse a team's significant increase in talent with a superstar playing the best ball of his career?" Those are not mutually exclusive concepts. A player can play his best ball AND his team can be better as well. Anybody watching Kobe on the regular knows this. It's too bad you can't see it too.

This is one game. I didn't watch it, but if you're going to rip on Kobe for having a terrible shooting night, what about TMac? Who guarded him to 4 for 16 shooting?

P.S. I'm not surprised if Kobe has poor shooting nights. If anything, it's amazing he has good shooting nights at all. I think people forget that he's essentially missing a finger on his shooting hand.

LOL
Kobe had a tough game, was heavily defended, and was short 2 key players. It is not the end of the world, this game shouldn't hurt or improve either T-Mac's or Kobe's chances to win the MVP.

As a matter of fact, McGrady did great involving his teammates and Kobe did a phenomenal job guarding T-Mac

Kobe didn't guarded T-Mac in the first half which he missed all of his shots. T-MAC was 0-8 in the first and 4-8 in the second. So don't try to sell that great defense myth tonight.

In my eye this game just showed T-Mac is not even the MVP of his own team. Key of Houston's success is great defense and T-Mac is not a vital part of this.

Kobe was just disappointing. I won't even argue about LeBron's and Kobe's court dominance from now on. Still if LeBron can't get to 50 wins my MVP is Kobe or CP3.

From what I've been reading from some game analyses, Kobe DID guard T-mac in the first half and some in the 2nd half. And TMAC got some buckets against Lamar Odom. I trust the guy at http://hardwoodparoxysm.blogspot.com/ over you, and he's a Kobe hater too.

Why would you lie like that? You think that just because I didn't watch the game I would rely on your version of the game? Dude you just got caught.

odom rarely guarded Tmac..Tmac was just off and had no quickness. He couldnt get around Kobe or even Radmanovic.

Okay two points:

1) Don't make more posts that relish in mocking players here. We're having enough trouble with high emotions around here.

2) What I noted more than anything else was Battier playing utterly amazing defense. That this happens against one of the best defenders in the league, in one game, is not grounds to dismiss what a player has done in all the other games.

1- I'm not a Kobe hater. I am a guy who's saying that Kobe is this year's MVP. If you are a hater of someone that's your problem not mine. In my opinion being a hater of a good basketball player is nothing but pathetic.

2- I watched the game and I had no idea if you watched it or not. Kobe didn't guard(except some occasional possessions) T-Mac in the first half. From the very beginning of the second half Kobe started to took T-Mac. I don't care about that guys comments because I watched the game and unlike you I am not talking about a game which I didn't even watch.

3-You better watch the replay of the game before calling anyone "liar". Liar is a strong word and you are not in a position to say that considering you didn't even watch the game.

I don't feel like reading the past 20 pages of this thread, but do people forget Kobe is playing with an injury and that even MJ had his share of 30% shooting nights? Check Lebron's first game of the season so we can judge it based on one game. I didn't know thats how the MVP worked!

Agreed - each of the 3 main candidates has a chance to either make a statement the the next week and a half or to fall in the race as they each have a tough stretch of games ahead.

Hornets have

vs Bulls
vs Rockets
vs Celtics
@ Indy
@ Cleveland
@ Boston
@ Toronto
@ Orlando

Lakers have

@ Dallas
@ Utah
Seattle
Golden State
vs Golden State

Cleveland has

at Orlando
Detroit
Toronto
@ Milwaukee
New Orleans
@ Detroit

The next week and a half could clear up the MVP race a bit or could tighten the race up even more.
