Devin Harris vs. Rajon Rondo

Post#1 » by keepthenetsinnj » Sun Mar 16, 2008 4:06 am

You know what to do.

I personally think Devin is the better PG. I think people tend to overrate Rondo because of the team he is on. What do you think?

Very few non-Celtics fans overrate him (just look at this thread for evidence: "Rondo sucks", two people claiming he's overrated and no one taking Rondo over Harris).

He is also consistently brought up in the "bottom 10 PG's in the league" threads and I'd actually argue he is underrated by many due to the team he plays on, and how he often only has a limited role in the offense which limits his stats-- very much like Harris in Dallas.

To answer the poll: Harris is better than Rondo right now, but Rondo is 3 years younger than Harris and is ahead of where Harris was when he was Rondo's age. My guess is Rondo will end up being better eventually, but it should be an interesting and close comparison to follow in the future.

Harris is a flat out much better player. And I do NOT think Rondo reaches his level.

Harris, if Rondo wasn't on the Celts, I wouldn't even know who he was.

Harris (with mavs this season)- 14.4/5.3/2.3 shooting .483/.357 in 30.4 mins over 39 games
Rondo- 10.5/5.1/4.2 shooting .483/.333 in 30.6 mins/ game with the celtics

I used Harris' production with the Mavs because I figured he's getting used to jersey still and his stats could be skewed negatively. I admit ive only watched Harris once or twice this season, but the production is comparable (Harris is better, but the "Rondo sucks" and "I wouldnt know who Rondo is" comments dont seem warranted). At first glane, their production implies that Harris is significatnly better in ft% (82% to 62%), scoring, and 3 pt. shooting, though both are below average behind the arc. Rondo is significantly better at rebounding, and their passing is comparable. Overall Harris is better, but their production seems pretty similar and Rondo is 3 years younger.

Harris, and I'm reminded of it everytime he needlessly fakes a behind the back pass.

Both are TJ Ford Lite.

Gimme Harris though, because I feel that Rondo should be getting more assists being on a team with KG, and Allen. People often say he does not have to ball enough, but if he was a good point guard, he'd have the ball in his hands more, would he not?

+10

rondo would be a third string point guard on many teams in the league. (not because he isnt talented enough, but becuase he wouldn't have been given a chance).

He is a good point guard, but not great. Harris is a better player. But playing with Pierce and Allen limits how much he touches the ball. The offense really goes through one of the big three. All of them are capable of creating their own shot or creating a shot from someone else, so Rondo's offensive role is diminished.

That said, he is is overrated by Celtics fans. and the TJ Ford Lite reference is a good one, he is a very fast player who can get to the rim any time he wants.

im a C's fan and while he may or may not be overrated by our fans, for one thing TJ Ford is a stick figure and is made of glass. rondo has proven time and again that he is not afraid to go in and rebound amongst the trees. i think his strength and his length make him a better defender than ford. ford however is a better shooter though. theyre fast pgs but thats about where the comparisons end. "tj ford lite" isnt even close.

Does making a team win count for anything? Because it's no exaggeration to say that Rondo is as valuable to the Celtics as Ray Allen.

He's getting better week by week. Last night he was a major contributor to another impressive win.

Many underestimate him here. I'll guarantee you Tony Parker doesn't.

Rondo will be playing in the all star game before some people realize how good he is.
