OT: live action dbz film

Post#1 » by happypedro12 » Sun Mar 16, 2008 6:44 pm

Apparantly its on for real, their already shooting and everything. http://dbzsc.com/
20th Century Fox has pushed back the studios' big screen Dragonball adaptation from August 15, 2008 to April 3, 2009. On the old date, it was facing The International, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Tropic Thunder and Wild Child, while it is currently by itself on the new date.

Written and directed by James Wong, the movie stars Justin Chatwin, James Marsters, Jamie Chung, Emmy Rossum, Eriko Tamura, Joon Park, Chow Yun-Fat, Texas Battle, Randall Duk Kim and Ernie Hudson

Goku is the son of tom cruise in War of the worlds, and piccolo is spike from buffy. you can look up the movie at imdb.com

I know that most people aren't into dbz, but i think this film has the potential to be decent. They are really starting from dragonball, so its just goku vs. piccolo. I think starting it here is good because most people aren't going to appreciate the whole super saiyan stuff and ki blasts. In fact, there will probaby just be one scene where Goku does the kamehameha vs. piccolo's special beam cannon. Me personally i'm a huge DBZ nerd, sue me, so i'm really amped about the new film.

Also if your interested, check out that website for the music videos. Yea yea its all DBZ material but the guy is pretty good at what he does. He's even got a couple movie trailers where he spliced in DBZ

Anyways, glad we clinched a playoff spot, now lets beat Cleveland tomorrow and prove that we are really the 3rd best team in the East
Whether you think you CAN or you think you CAN'T, you're right.

yea they started filming a month or two ago I believe. Gonna be interesting to see what they do with it. But like you said they're not oging to do anything from DBZ. I would imagine if anything at the very end they'll leave it open to a sequel by showing Radditz's ship land or something.

Strange that I still remember so much from the show but i haven't watched it since I was like 13, lol.

Looking forward to watching it actually. Not expecting it to be any better then the TV show. Which in of itself was kinda cheesy but for a young lad that I was back in the day who can ask for more?

I could also take some of my nephews along for the ride.

DBZ sounds pretty cool. I never got into it in my teens, but looking at it now it sounds pretty cool. I also might look more into the Japanese stuff like at comic book stores and stuff. If anyone wants to throw ideas at me, please do.

I was into dbz when I was a teen, but come on, they haven't had a new episode (in America) in many years now, it's hard to keep up much interest.

I have every dragonball (z, gt) episode, but I haven't watched in years.

At this point, the video games are the only thing keeping me remembering it. I'll probably try the movie, but I'm not too thrilled about it, it seems really weird, especially if they ever get into the cell saga with all the super saiyan, transformations, etc; it'd have to be a huge budget movie, otherwise it'd look like crap.

Same here.

I was a dragonball fan to say the least, I wasn't that much into DB or GT although anything was better than nothing. DBZ was the real deal for me though, sure the episodes were ultra slow but the cell saga was daaa **** right there. The concept was nice and original, characters were likeable and I think the uncut version is one of the, if not the, toughest animes ever, pure hardcore (especially the fight scenes).

But i'm not too optimistic about the movie, will probably be a horrible movie in the end, feels like they are doing it just to cash in.If that's the case I hope it blows up in their face.I saw the guy that's supposed to play Goku, and it doesn't look good. The entire cast from producer to director to the cast is horrible, so the chances of this being good is slim to none.

I hope someday an A list director takes on this script and does it justice,
I don't think the visual effects can achieved right now but maybe in 10 years it'll be possible, a DBZ movie where Goku squares off against Cell or Vegeta would be epic.
