Lakers 4 tough road games in a row

Post#1 » by jradMIT » Mon Mar 17, 2008 3:56 pm

After losing to New Orleans and Houston this weekend, and after losing Gasol for the rest of the road trip, the Lakers face two daunting opponents on the Road. What makes it worse is that Dallas has the second best home record at 29-4, and then they have to play Utah with the leagues best home record 28-3. The question is will LA lose four in a row, or will they be able to beat one or both of their next two opponents. I think that they will lose both games, they have a decent chance of beating Dallas, but they aren't 29-4 for no reason. Thoughts?

They will lose 4 in a row. Lamar will just hide behind his teammates once more and only take 6 shots. The other roleplayers (I am being generous here) will not be able to create anything and shoot 35% from the field. Kobe starts taking over but there is only so much he can do.

I could have just pasted the above from any Laker game last two seasons but oh well.

The Lakers have eight healthy players.

Kobe
Odom
Sasha
Fisher
Walton
Vlad
Farmar
Turiaf
and DJ Mbenga

It's not that team above can't score, it's that collectively, it cannot defend a paper bag right now. The team as a unit has poor fundamental defense and there are NO rebounding bigs outside of Odom.

Even if the team scores 120, it is likely to give up 130 to both Dallas and Utah until some semblance of better defense and rebounding comes back to this team.
I.e. Bynum, Pau and Ariza.

I mean there are only so many players Kobe can guard. His man is likely NOT to score on him much. But when everyone else is a turnstyle, you end up getting caught in the wind.

That way the poor perimeter defense of guys like Fisher, Farmar, Walton, Vlad and Sasha can be hidden.

Those guys are for all intents and purposes one dimensional shooters who can't defend a paper bag.

Think about this. Houston scored 104 points yesterday and 60 of it was their three PGs. Alston, Jackson and Head.

Thats ATROCIOUS Defense at the most important spot. Who in the HELL is that team gonna beat playing that kind of defense???

Defense is a team thing. TEAM DEFENSE wins you games at the end. That's why Denver has so much trouble winning games. Their team defense is suspect. Until they start to defend fundamentally and understand where to rotate to and HOW TO DEFEND TEH PICK and ROLL, they will not be winning anything,

especially games in Dallas and Utah!

Mavs game will be the last loss of the regular season. Mark my words.

Kobe loves to drop 40's, 50's on both teams. Both team has no answer to Kobe. Because of that they have a chance to win but still without Bynum and Gasol, it'll be really tough. Lamar should show up big time, Fisher-Farmar-Vujacic-Vlad, at least 3 of them must punish the double's like an assassin. This is the only way to defeat these teams.(I am assuming that Kobe will rain on them)

The Jazz beat up the Lakers in Utah with out Boozer or Okur, and that was before the Korver trade. Now that the tables have turned a bit and the Lakers are missing their two big guys I imagine much of the same from the Jazz.

There is no chance the Jazz take this one lightly, and the Jazz most likely will have won 19 in a row at home and going for the team record. (if they beat Toronto tonight that is)

They'll beat the Mavs, but lose to the Jazz.

lakers need to focus on winning games they should win... it is too competitive in the west that the only benefit is homecourt... going against 7th vs 6th is not a big difference.

Winning these two games are a must. I want home court in the playoffs at least in the west. Dallas and Utah has no awnser for Kobe but our proble is the were asking Ronny to play something he's not.

Losing this to games Dallas and Utah would be

Lakers 45-23
mavs 45-23
utah 45-24

Not to mention that New orleans and San antonio have 44 wins they both.

They are playing NO= with bulls and houston (both winnable games) and San antonio with (boston at alamodome and with chicago in illinois)

that means IF WE LOSE BOTH, we could be at 7th spot by wednesday.

You're happy that we're not doing well on this road trip (thanks largely to Gasol's injury)?
