I was pissed when this happened.... we should have at least gotten a 1st rounder for him like Memphis did with Navarro.

It was a cap move that let us sign other players but it would have been nice to have him in our rotation.

I agree with TDITM, but all will be forgotten next year when Splitter is in a Spurs uniform..

Yeah I always figured that the Rockets got him for free because Spannoulis never came back.

I never understood why he traded him. He was the best player outside the Nba. Right now, He's definitely better than Splitter. I was kind of disappointed with Tiago in last couple of years but this year he looks much improved, good news for Spurs fans. Still Duncan-Splitter-Oberto-Scola would be a great front court.

yea... you gotta hate those cap saving moves. scola wanted to start though, with duncan there it would be been hard to find playing time for mr scola.

and the spurs were willing to let vspan go because a big part of this decision was to get under the tax.

I thought it was a luxury cap move - he almost went to cleveland in a 3 team trade, then when the Kings changed their minds on the trade, the spurs moved him for a trade exception. Cleveland didn't have a big enough trade exception or he'd likely be in cleveland now.

Popovic didn't trade him, the Spurs GM did idiots.

I don't think calling RC an idiot is a valid argument..hasn't he done enough to be considered a great GM?..

Letting Beno Udrih go wasn't very bright either . He had his reasons I guess

yea i agree.. it was an extremely tough call. every spurs fan knew udrih had talent and the potential start for some teams during his rookie year. problem was that udrih struggled so badly in the finals against detriot he got benched for 3 years.

i was personally a big udrih fan but he had an abundance of problems. his work ethic was a huge question mark, he was always injured, and he didnt make the most of his minutes. that and darius washington was playing out of his mind, granted it was preseason, it made beno expendable. even though i was a fan, i knew it was time for him to go. glad to see him doing well in sac town.

pop is smart he drafted scola and udrih...they may not be with the spurs for other reasons...but he knows how to draft

It wasn't even Pop's call. The main reason to move Scola was luxury tax concern. That usually spells owner.

I think Dennis Lindsey might have had something to do with this.
