Game Cigar: Big win vs. the Champs 3-17-08

Post#1 » by tlee324 » Tue Mar 18, 2008 3:16 am

HUGE win over the champs, coming from behind by 17 points. Pierce put a good game together, KG was strong, Rondo was big (hit those FTs at the end, baby), and Cassell hit some clutch baskets too. Tough choices...

come on, this doesn't belong to just one player. We beat the "Model Team" as a team. I vote Team Cigar tonight.

My vote goes to Cassell. When NOTHING was clicking, he single-handedly kept the Celtics alive.

Unbelievably close between Sam and Rondo for me. I went with Sam because I felt he kept us in the game with his bench production in the 1st half and obviously he had the huge 3.

Rondo (and Pierce too) was great as well and showed just how giant his testicles are by touching nothing but net on those 2 free throws, but Sam earns his 1st victory cigar for me.

There were a number of times this season when I thought a team defense or team effort was the real "cigar", but I guess this individuality of the game cigar thing is what we're doing this year...

I think I'm going to have to go with Pierce. His defense was huge. And he hit clutch shots/got to the line when we needed it. Rondo also played incredibly, but he really sucked in the first quarter so that eliminates him. Sam Cassell is a close second. That three was huge!

FWIW: This is the second time in a row I voted for Cassell.

like the previous person said, this really was a team effort tonight.

But if I have to choose, it is Cassell for me. What a game!

Tough choice. I was going to vote Rondo but Sam really bailed us out. I'm going with Sam.

very hard to choose tonight as it was such a great team effort. rondo and cassell were absolutely amazing tonight so it'd be probably between those two.

Gotta go with Rondo. Great game. Big rebound at the end.

Doc also should get some credit. I think he did a good job tonight.

I gotta give this to Sammy. 1st big game as a Celtic. Hopefully a lot more to come.

Rondo was a huge factor as well. Props to both PGs.

I went with Rondo, although I would have voted for a team cigar if that were a choice.

I have trouble understanding Sam over Rondo. Yeah, Sam made a few shots, but without Rondo's play in the second half of the second quarter and all of the third quarter, we lose by fifteen. Not to mention his key rebound and free throws at the end. It doesn't get any more clutch than that.

Kudos to Pierce too. He is becoming the player this season that I always dreamed he would be. Very few of his attacks on the basket now seem forced. They are always well timed and come within the flow of the game. Also, his passing is excellent, and his defense was just awesome at times tonight.

Great team win.

I think all the above are worthy, but if I had to pick I'm going with Pierce. Nothing flashy, but efficient, and late in the game his hands are where I wanted the ball. Sam and Eddie were huge to though, and Ray was sorely missed. But oh my gosh I hate the Spurs. I dont think I can take this over 7 games, my head may explode. Go C's!!!

I voted for Rondo, but would easily give it to Cassell.

I say we amend the poll to give it to our PG rotation tonight. Sam and Rondo were equally huge tonight. Joint Cigar for Cassell and Rondo!

I voted for Rajon Rondo. He's Rajontastic. Rondastic. Simply Fabulous.

Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett were tied for 2nd.

Sammy was 4th. But out of this world, nonetheless.

Cassell, but it was hard to not give it to Rondo. Both were just huge tonight and both played well late too... Rajon hitting his FTs and the rebound, Sam getting those huge shots. Paul also really deserves a mention.

What BMC no snappy St Paddy's Day title?

Look I am the biggest Rondo honk going but he had quite a hand in digging the ditch. More importantly this at times devloves into a player of the game award and that isn't what we talked about when we started it. This is about being the key to victory, sometimes it is a dominant player other times it is a guy who made one play.

We don't win this game without Sam I Am. I was back on forth on whether or not he was the answer for this team but he has straight up caught the bug. Tonight belongs to Sam I Am.

Props to whoever mentioned Doc as well, this was perhaps his greatest coaching moment to this point. Relatively meaningless we all hope in a month's time but Doc was large and in charge as he went over .500 for his career.
