Verbal flopping is spreading like a disease

Post#1 » by nba_on_nbc » Mon Mar 17, 2008 7:21 am

I agree with Van Gundy and came to the conclusion that verbal flopping is even worse than the actual flopping. I hate to see players try to trick the refs by yelling and screaming when there's actually no foul at all.

I think Van Gundy called out a few players in some games like Horry, Kobe etc. I don't know what the NBA could do about it but it's spreading like a disease.

No way is yelling out loud nearly as bad as falling to the floor like a fish.

It really depends because very often with a flop there is actual contact its just emphasized while with the verbal flop there is often no contact at all.

Verbal Flopping says more about the refs then it does the players. Like outlaw said, with a flop there is usually actual contact, so I can understand why refs call fouls a lot of the time. But to call a foul just because you hear a guy yell out? Stupid.

Why would I ever yell while playing ball?

Sometimes players just yell to yell. I know alot of players, myself included that yells when they rebound the ball and try to put it back up in congestion. It's just habit. Sometimes they're not yelling to get a call, but just yelling to add that extra "mmph" to get the ball up. Lamar does that all the time when he's around the glass. Kind of like when tennis players yell when they hit the ball.

I played with a weirdo who'd yell when he bricks all his shots. It's uncalled for. Just as yelling when working out is considered a nuisance so is this.

Michael Redd screams, "OHHHHHHHHH AAAAANNNNNDDDD OOOOONNNNNNNEEEEE." Everytime he gets into the lane, it is quite annoying.
