Calderon is a better shooter over all you mean. [From the line, mid-range, and 3]. Calderon is also better passer, and more careful with the ball.
His game is only augmented because of the style offense the Raptors run ... his assists are manufactured off of what the Raptors call the "swing swing pass", meaning swing the ball around the perimeter and find the open man, they're not created off the dribble drive, something which Jose rarely does
To say Jose rarely uses the dribble drive is an over statement. Would I like to see him use it more? Yep, because he is a fairly quick point guard, but even without Bosh [the main scoring option] he is still averaging 7-8 assists a game. If you think he gets 7-8 assists per game just by doing the "swing-swing", you're crazy.
He can't guard his own shadow ... exposed on a daily basis on the defensive end ... something which was acknowledged by Raptors GM Brian Colangelo ... Worst lateral quicks of any PG in the league ...
Yes, his defense is bad. It has look worse since Bosh went down, because now Calderon does not have anyone who can help on his man. Bargnani is a horrible help defender, so that's why it looks bad during this stretch. I'm comfortable with him playing D when Bosh is on the floor, though. D is a big problem, that much is true.
his points usually come off of a screen-and-roll with Bosh, he needs a screen from Bosh for majority of his scoring opportunities, wide-open jumpers, nothing complicated about that ...
His scoring has dropped since Bosh went out, sure [from 15 a game as a starter to 8-9] but if you paid attention at all last year, Calderon was a 9 ppg man off the bench [21 mins a game], mostly playing without Bosh.
He is a jump shooter, not a creator, and playing off Bosh makes it easier for him, but he does not need Bosh to score. His lack of scoring is mainly due to how passive he is [which is a big problem, in my eye's].
Didn't Muggsy Bogues lead the league in that stat, but did that make him great? ... All the great players in the league turn the ball over ... that's what makes them great, because they take and are not afraid to take risks ...
He takes care of the ball. That's a good thing. I don't know why you're trying to use redundant comparisons [LOL sUpErz stArz TO! If you think Wade's 5 TO's a game is nice, well that's your problem] and trying to make a good thing sound bad for your argument, but it just looks silly for you to find fault with his carefulness with the ball.
-His stats only went up this season, because he got extended playing time, 40+ minutes in the absense of their starting PG ...
Wrong, he played around 35ish mins when Ford went out, and if you take his stats from last year and stretch that out to 35ish mins, you can actually see that he has improved.
If you were to stretch his production form last year out to 35 mins, it would look like

So he improved in points and assists, and shot the ball better. He is around 26 so no one is really expecting him to improve by leaps and bounds, but if you watch him, you know this year is a big improvement.
Sure he is in a slump right now, and his shooting and assists are down, but he is a second star, not a franchise player, so I was expecting reduced production when the main scorer, assist receiver and attention grabber of the team went down with injury.
f he's supposedly the next Nash, that means he'll be a two-time MVP, and NBA All-Star, and future Hall of Famer ... people in Toronto even mention him among the elite lead guards in the NBA, ie. Chris Paul, Deron Williams ...
You must be seriously deluded if you think any reasonable person believed he would be the next Nash, Paul, or Deron. Only the hardcore homers would mention him in the same breath and if you think anyone was fooled by them, that's your problem. He is a top 10 point guard, for sure, and if you want to deny that, we can have a long discussion about that, but to argue about delusion is point-less.

RapZilla, my friend, it's been a while ... still rebutting everything I post huh? ... Raptor fans on the Raptor board are what drove me out of there too, I've since renounced my status as a Raptor fan ... difference on these other boards is that we actually get an outsider (outside Toronto) perspective ...
