Billups from the Charity Stripe
Just thought a little thread appreciating Chauncey's free throw shooting was in order...
Leading the league at 91.076%, just a hair better than Ben Gordon but with a ton more attempts.
Highest percentage for someone with more attempts than Chauncey (none of the rest are even close) is Dirk at 87.967%, 9th in the league.
One funny comparison: Dwyane Wade, at 75.8%, has 7 more makes than Chauncey... IN 86 MORE ATTEMPTS.

What? No.
Calvin Murphy shot 95.8% from the line in 1980-1981.
Steve Nash shot 92.1% in 2005-2006. Peja Stojakovic shot 91.5% that year.
Reggie Miller shot 91.5% in 1998-1999.
Chris Mullin shot 93.9% in 1997-1998.
Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf shot 93.0% in 1995-1996 and 95.6% in 1993-1994.
The list goes on and on.

This century would only include stuff from 2000 and beyond.
But it looks like Nash and Peja have had better %'s.

Yeah I have, I don't know why he does struggle at technicals, there was a segment of it on NBA TV, you do get the ball back from a technical so It's not a problem. Also I think it's just the regular season and stuff and you got to count how much time's technicals are shot, they could be lucky breaks that affect that percentage. If anyone can find a website with those stats please post.

I have the game logs saved on my hard drive, so it was easy enough to check.
He has made 31 of 35 this season (89%).

Nice work. So doing the math means that he shoots 91.4% when everybody's lined up and 88.57% when it's a tech. Doesn't seem like much of a trend to me, unless someone wanted to dig back through old seasons and show that the same was true.
Incidentally, Caron Butler now leads the league at 91.163% to Chauncey's 91.146%.

I wonder if Chauncy or Rip get upset when Flip chooses one over the othe to hit a Tech. free throw...knowing that they are both great FT shooters?
SIDENOTE - I am so happy that we have that backcourt when it comes to the cherity stripe....it's such a comfort in tight games that most teams don't enjoy.
