Caron- has a chipped bone in his left wrist

Post#1 » by Donkey McDonkerton » Tue Mar 18, 2008 8:00 pm

Bad news - the title
Good news- he will play
Good news- it's my bday
Bad news- I have no more good news.

As I reported in my game story this morning, Caron Butler has a chipped bone in his left wrist, the result of a tough fall he took while making a layup during Thursday's win over Cleveland. Butler told me that it won't require surgery and that he can play with it. However, in the last two games, it's clearly been a problem. He's had trouble dribbling with his left hand and gripping the basketball has been an issue as well.
Caron: "Some of the things I'm used to doing out there I can't do right now because everything I'm doing is right-handed, but there are no excuses. I just have to go out there and play hard and develop a rhythm with the new style I'm trying to play with. A couple of more games, I should be back to normal."
"More tape and more padding and it should be good. Just wrap me up and let's go play."
He also had a funny line about Mrs. Tough Juice: "When I get home, that's what my wife is for, making me feel good about myself."

And this, my friends, is why he is "Tough Juice".

No matter, EJ will play him 30+ minutes a night regardless of how effective/ineffective he might be, or how it might affect the healing process. :nonono:

Mrs. Tough Juice might not like the competition.

Dr Ruz says they should just rest him for... say... 2-3 weeks.

What is a chip bone? Is it a fracture?

This team is a walking infirmary. I wouldn't be surprised if half the team got some sort of surgery in the offseason.

This may not be a popular thing to say but Caron is pretty much Larry Hughes at this point....I love him but he seems to get nicked up every year.

Yep, he's getting there. In the last 12 months it's been a broken hand, a torn labrum in his hip, and now a chipped wrist. Interestingly, as his minutes have increase so have his games missed:

2005-06: 7 games missed, 36 MPG
2006-07: 18 games missed, 38 MPG
2007-08: 20 games missed (so far), 40 MPG

Yep, he couldn't even wait a complete game before getting banged up again.

It's one thing to be tough juice and play through injuries, its another thing if he's relegated to being as ineffective offensively as he was last night.

Honestly this really has has been a sucky past 2-3 days for the team. First Gil's comeback isn't as close as we thought it might be, we get rolled over by not-so-good Atlanta squad and now we find out how brittle Butler really is.

A banged up Butler & and an injured Gilbert (or one at less than 70%) doesn't bode well for the playoffs.

All were missing now is another EJ vs. Haywood beef to round out the regular season and make it feel like deja vu all over again. Isn't Etan supposedly coming back soon anyways?

Now I KNOW I'm Wizard fan. :D

This team's just like ME and my life.

They go through some stuff, man!

Can't even write a script or a country and western song to capture the epic tragedy.

All the Wizards need to do is stay together and grow through these experiences. Exhibit patience in suffering and be prepared to triumph when it's time.

They're in a place to learn hard but valuable lessons. Gil got infirmity and Caron's been afflicted with injuries. Humility and even more mental toughness are bred of affliction.

Jamison's been sure nuff captain, dad, and if not butt kicker sure enough lockerroom re-arranger for a reason. I don't see the man as soft any more.

Eddie Jordan's been the captain of the titanic or the head of a MASH-type triage unit for a reason. He hasn't had the superstars to lean on and he's had to use his bigs. He's had to see Brendan emerge. Others have to admire that EJ is definitely not a whiner. I cannot imagine another coach in the league remaining as composed under the circumstances. What's been forced on EJ has been changes he didn't necessarily want to make.

Caron comes back and plays big minutes ... and gets hurt. Hmmm, if EG said watch his minutes and say Caron played 20 minutes that game instead of 41 the odds are 50-50 that he's not hurt right now. Oh yeah, it's time to ADMIT you might not have made the greatest decision to "watch him" play those minutes.

(For damage control, I'd suggest EJ go back and watch that game and see when Caron got hurt, just for CYA purposes. Who knows but that it didn't happen right away.)

Forgive my rant, but this group is a great bunch of guys, these Wizards. Indeed, sometimes bad things do happen to good people.

I just believe trouble don't last always. Weeping does indeed last for a night but joy comes in the morning. In all the parables/cliches whatever you want to call them, I think they just need to "stay the course".

It's just not time right now for the Wizards. WHEN they get through this, the ones with faith will be still standing and they'll go very far in the NBA. They learning a whole lot right NOW.

Look no further than the Pistons. Rasheed, Rip, and Chauncey went through some stuff and so did Big Ben before they won it all.

Keep this core together. Get the defensive mojo going. Play a deep roster that withstands injuries to key guys. Keep feeling like the Wizards can beat anybody and eventually the Wizards will.

This IMO is just a time of testing and it's only a matter of time before they pass the test. The ones that GO THROUGH IT AND DON'T RUN AWAY will most certainly pass the test.

I don't care how this season turns out record wise, but a whole lot of lessons can be learned right now.

Or they could get a better medical staff and properly diagnose things.

Uhh, that, too, Raf. :)

Bugs Bunny cartoons used to feature Elmer Fudd. He'd declare it rabbit season and would shoot at anything that moved that might be a rabbit. Right about now I'm thinking all Wizards medical personnel should be thoroughly scrutinized. Rabbit season on them dudes, Raf.

They've got some explaining to do.

Can the NBA have it's own medical expert staff available to players who might get a second opinion and if need be, alternative medical treatment to team doctors?

Injuries aren't the doctors' fault but some of the early diagnoses and preventative techniques seems to be not working out too well.

+1 this team badly need a new medical staff and trainers. Sort of what the Skins did this offseason after an amazingly sucky injury year.

Stop with that insanity. The board Gods have already declared there is no such possible correlation. A thunder bolt will now strike you squarely in the buttock.
