I'm glad nobody has any expectations for McGrady. Less pressure, you guys have obviously no respect or appreciation for him comparing him to caron freaking Butler and saying who's better.

That's like comparing ray allen to Kobe and saying who's better (and I"m being generous with that example).

I think the best argument in favor of T-Mac over Butler is that McGrady is one of the three best playmakers in the league that doesn't play from the PG slot.

He's a comparable scorer, a comparable defender and rebounder, they're similar in many regards. But McGrady is unequivocally superior as a passer and ball-handler and that, for me, is the separation between the two.

T-Mac is well past his scoring prime, too, which is one of the things that makes this comparison even partially valid and that has to be considered.

If we want to get picky about monthly averages, McGrady is averaging 25.9 ppg on 46.6% FG and only 67.4% FT in March.

He averaged 6.5 apg last month over 13 games.

Butler is a fine player, peaking right now and enjoying what is by far the best season of his career. The scope of this comparison seems to be the present season and so there is a comparison to be made between these two but I still think that it favors McGrady because while there aren't any significant factors favoring Butler, McGrady does enjoy a considerable advantage as a playmaker.

Caron Butler is having the better season. He is a more efficient player but T-Mac is the better overall player no knock on Butler. Butler also is a good play-maker, I take it you guys don't watch him play much. At some times he is our defacto play maker with no PG on the floor.

Where's the poll? We need a poll for every comparison thread.

McGrady is obviously a hugely superior athlete, and is capable of feats that Caron could never touch. That Caron, a mediocre athlete by NBA standards, has managed to put up comparable stats, lead a successful team as the first option, and change his game to suit trying circumstances is a testament to his character and work ethic.

McGrady is more valuable, but it's hard to fault anything about Butler's game.
