How is not even close? Deron averages 2 more ppg, 1 fewer assist, they have similar shooting %'s, although Nash does shoot it better from the ft line and 3 point line. Deron's D is much better than Nash's though, plus Williams has the ability to get in the paint and finish. Nash can get into the paint but normally has to dish it off, he's not strong enough or big enough to finish. Don't get me wrong, Nash is a great player and I love his game, but I just think it's stupid to say "Nash, and it ain't even close." Get a clue bro. Try watching some Jazz games and check out their stats before saying stupid things like that.

Deron. Nash is a sieve on defense and a turnover machine.

Deron is among the league leaders in TO's per game with 3.5 to Nash's 3.8. Nash outrebounds him, gets more assists, hits over 10% more of his free throws and hits 46% of his 3's to Deron's 40%. Both are shooting 51% FG (Nash shooting slightly better), Deron is leading in steals, and in PPG. I'll take Nash for his constant year-to-year efficiency but its definitely close this year.

The problem is, Nash gets abused by any decent PG and he's a liability defensively. You have to put your best wing defender, in this case, Raja Bell on the PG and hope that the SG doesn't kill Nash.

Nash's impact on the game is getting so under rated. Nash easily for me.

Nash is better right now, but I'd rather have Deron.

Patterns, the person above me had called Nash a TO machine without actually looking at the number of To's Deron gets. While the argument that Nash gets abused is legit I would also bet he is in the upper eschelon in drawing charges. It's really close to me. Paul to me has much greater defense than the both of these guys.

Wow, Deron is an absolutely awful defender and people are saying they'd take him because of his D?

The only way to say Deron is if you don't watch games, look at their similar numbers, listen to the noise about Nash's defense, and then make the assumption that Deron's defense is good.

The Nash hate is getting pretty loud.

Paul is probably the best pg in the league this season but Nash is pretty close behind him.

Deron's defense is anything but awful.

He isn't the quickest guy on the floor and therefore gets beat by faster players, but he really puts out good effort on the defensive end, and he is a solid team/help defender. He doesn't play the passing lanes like CP3 does, but then again he doesn't have two legit shot blockers behind him like Paul does.

He's definitely at least an average defender, he rarely gets lit up by opposing point guards like some of the other guys on this list do, and when he does it's mostly because of their three point shooting and thats because of Jerry Sloan's system, any Jazz fan can attest to that.

Not that this matters but he actually a decent shot blocker for his size, he doesn't average a ton of them but every once in a while he will he will get 2 or so in a game which is rare for a PG. He's also a solid transition defender.

Also, Deron this season has learned how to take over games at the hoop way more then he could last year or in the past which is a very good addition to his offensive game. Last year the mid range game was his deadliest weapon, now he has added penetration scoring to his game and he has become a much more complete player.

Deron is also 11th in the league in "And 1's" with 42, Nash has 11 on the season so Deron is a much better finisher at the rim which is important for a point guard.

Overall, I would say their offensive skills are pretty much a draw with the fact that Nash is a better long distance shooter (not that 40% from D-Will is anything to frown at) but Deron is a much better finisher at the hoop.

And as far as defense goes Nash is probably the worst in the league so even if Deron isn't good like most of you are claiming, he's certainly not a liability and most definitely better then Nash.

Right now I take Deron. I think he's more dynamic then Nash.

^Well believe what you want but Deron being an average defender but he has one of the worst defensive +/- out of any point guard in the league. I know you are a Jazz fan and are therefore the most knowledgable and least reliable source of information on the guy.

Unfortunately stats are unreliable but if you don't use them you only have the opinions of unbiased observers and fanboys to go by.

As far as more dynamic, that is plain nonsense. Maybe in a different system he'd be more dynamic but he doesn't have the free reign that Nash does, thats may be more of a difference in coaching style than ability.
