At this point I don't think the Pacers can dump him just to save money. I'd be OK with trading Dunleavy for similarly priced talent, since I think both he and Granger are best off at small forward, but just dumping his salary would piss me off.

Well said. I don't think Pacers would get anywhere near fair trade value for Dunleavy at this point. He hasn't proven himself enough and even though he's a success for us, teams would be very weary taking a risk on him. Trading for Dunleavy would be a risk.

That being said, i don't see the Pacers dealing Dunleavy unless they get equal or greater value. They won't get it so they'd be better off just keeping him in Indy and hope he can improve on this awesome season he is having for us. If he does improve on this season, he'll be a bargin for us.

I think it was for a lesser player and our 2008 first round pick.

I haven't seen Shawne yet so I have no idea what a fair deal would be.

Something we're missing here when comparing Williams to other Pacers troublemakers is accounting for age. Keeping Williams is a low-risk move for the Pacers because at his age, he's not a leader in the locker room and will likely not influence the team's culture. Furthermore, if the Pacers overhaul the team, import a few positive influences but keep Williams, there's a good shot he'd straighten out. And if not, he's just a wasted prospect, not a highly visible starter that really damages the fan's perception of the team.

Not that it isn't annoying and troublesome when he's involved in things like this, but the Pacers should focus more on trading the vets who have created this team culture (Tinsley), or allowed it to be created (JO), than getting rid of Williams.

I think a deal that sends Shawne out West would be ideal for all parties. I know he's away from Memphis now, but that's basically a 5 or 6-hr drive up 65 to Nap, so it's easy access for some of his friends. If we sent him w/ Tins to someplace like Seattle for Ridnour, he'd be farther than a road trip, and we'd only see him a couple times a year, just in case he realizes his potential.

Also, remember, he's a top 20 pick, and one that Bird passed on some other highly-touted players to get. Dumping him shouldn't be an option, but using him as a sweetener to move one of our bad deals is a good idea IMHO...

Nothing new on Shawne other than the fact he's trying to work his way back into the good graces of management. Either way, he's still extremely young and only in his 2nd year in the league. He's not earned his way to being a superstar yet at all. He honestly doesn't deserve a new "Is he done in Indy?" thread every 2 weeks.

Pretty nice game by Shawne last night.

Build him a suite in the basement of Conseco, put an armed security guard at the door round-the-clock, and don't let him leave without a hall pass from Larry Bird.

Still high on my keep list, until I'm convinced that he's guilty of more than just having poor friend/family selection skills.
I have no idea what you're talking about, and clearly, neither do you.

More importantly, don't give him any friends to play with.

God, I hate talking smack about the young guy.

He's got youth on his side in this one. If he makes another stupid mistake then we'll see. However, the fact is he's like 21 or 22. This is not a 26 year old. This is a guy that is learning what it takes to be a professional both on and off the court. He's got the money now, and he needs to learn who his real friends and associates should be. If he chooses wrongly, they'll bring him and possibly even his career down in a hurry.
