IMO we weren't true contenders this year with Yao and we are definetly not a contender without him.
I hope we can get to the 2nd round this year just to get the monkey off our back and then next year with a Miller type player that we can get by trading BJ we will have the same talent as other elite teams.
PHX and Dallas with Kidd will be older and maybe we will be able to call ourselves a true contender.

I'm not so sure about that. The way we were/are playing, with a healthy Yao, I would say that we had a fair chance of coming out of the West - the only team presenting mismatch problems would have been Golden State - or at least making the finals (against LA or SA). All depends on what you mean by 'true contender' I guess, but having a good chance to make the Conf.finals is about all you can ask for in such a stacked conference.

Anyway, the Bonzi trade was made before Yao went down. But the way things have gone, I guess it's worked out for the best since w/o Yao it's highly unlikely we make the conf.finals anyway.
