I STILL don't know why people say Jax's D is overrated despite him shutting down all those stars. Idk why. Just wait till the playoffs, and he'll unleash his wrath.

I tend to agree, not sure if he is DPOY level, but he's certainly an excellent man defender, gives Dirk nightmares.

It's kinda hard to win DPOY when there are lots of good defensive bigmen, but I definitely think SJax is all nba d team caliber, especially if Hughes and Bell have a combined multiple d teams.

That's my feeling, to be honest, I don't think any guard/wing can impact the game like a good defensive big man....

Hinrich is the only guy in the league who can consistently stop a healthy Wade.

Larry Hughes is a perfect example. And although I tend to think that while Raja Bell is a very solid perimeter defender, his skills are exaggerated simply due to his teammates relative inability to play any D. He's definitely not a vocal leader defensively either...

Raja Bell

Bruce Bowen (this year, he has declined)

Tony Parker (he's never been more than an average defender and has been outright bad this year)

Shawn Marion (he's a good a versatile defender, but not a DPOY candidate like some suggest)

I wouldn't put Kidd here because everyone realizes that he isn't as great as a defender as he used to be. If anything its been exaggerated how much his defense has declined, he is still a good defender.

Marcus Camby, Andrei Kirilenko, and Shane Battier are horribly overrated.

AK47
Gerald Wallace
Camby

I don't know if Dwight Howard is overated. He gets a ton of rebounds, and ESPN blocks into the stands. But from what I see of him he's not a great defender like some make him out to be. This could be wrong as my opion is mostly formed from Raps vs. Magic, and Bosh usually goes off on him, and his coach calling him out for not playing enough D.

^^^ D12 is at least a pretty good defender, but IMO not DPOY calilber at this point. I'm still pondering at why the coaches were dumb enough to vote Hughes for all-nba d team 1.

Both Kenyon Martin and Marcus Camby. Neither are good post defenders or play solid man-to-man defense Camby has good length so he gets several weak side blocks. But to get weakside blocks he leaves his man and gets burned as often as he gets a block. Martin is just a thug and since he hoots and hallers all the time and plays rugged it is percieved that he's a good defender, which is something he is not. He's more bark than bite.

I know, he locked down Chris the other day (37/13) and he took advantage of Chris' matador D, and gambles by going 0-6, for 0 points on the night.

Hinrich played 16 minutes that night.

His defense hasn't been great this year... the entire team has regressed offensively and defensively. The players are capable of playing much better on both sides of the ball, but they just aren't. Part of that blame is on the bonehead coaching of Boylan, though.

Last year I say he was underrated, he was arguably the best defensive PG in the league. He isn't even close this year, though.

Nocioni, a lot of people think he's a great defender because he hustles a lot, but he's too slow for most SFs, and too small for most PFs. Good at drawing charges, though.

By the way, what happened to Chandler's shotblocking? Why doesn't he block more shots?

Someone as tall, athletic, long, and defensive minded as him should be blocking at least 2 a game and as much as 3 a game.

Marcus Camby may not be a great man defender, but in a center, shot-blocking ability is HUGE. When Camby is in the game, it means no easy layups. The rebounding is a nice bonus as well.
Shane Battier is an excellent man defender. He guards star wings about as well as anyone in the league. His d was a huge part of that 22 game win streak.
AK is maybe a little overrated, but he really bothers people with his length.

People think defenders are overrated just cause they occasionally get beaten, but every player in the league gets burned on some nights. The 3 players above consistently cause problems for the opposing offense, I can't see how any of them are "horribly overrated."

pfftt, you got me, he does challenge quite a bit of shots, but he's not the defensive anchor people make him out to be.

he's got less BPG than david west... 1.0 per game....
