What makes fans classless?
I have been reading all the boards about how the Jazz fans are classless for booing Fisher when he has come back and played in Utah. while I agree there is never an excuse to throw things onto the floor, I don't think that convicts an entire fanbase of being classless. Those who chose to throw items down indeed deserve that distinction.
As for the booing though, there seems to be a sentiment that Fisher was booed because of his daughter. In fact that isn't the case. I know this has been discussed ad nauseam. I think it's short sighted at best to say it was due to Derek's daughter that he was booed. In fact I would wager all I have to say all fans, Jazz or otherwise are glad Tatum is doing well. To boo for a reason like the cancer she has been battling is laughable. No one booed Lamar Odom because of the tragedy that was his infant child dying. I am impressed that Kobe can take something as impersonal as booing and turn it into the type of motivation he did to destroy the Jazz the other night. The question I have is when your team is booed Kobe, why not have every game be personal?
I have just grown weary of it being somehow a personal issue. Has anyone tried to see why the Jazz fans would boo Derek? Who I might add is indeed a large part of what is right with some professional athletes. I don't question any of his motives for the decisions he made. His methods could be construed as suspect, but I think he did the best thing for the Jazz and for his family. I think he was misleading and didn't look at all the factors involved, but the end result was he wanted his family to be happy. Fans can boo any player, particularly ones who just a year removed had been on their team. Is it Classless of Kobe to say, "All day, Mother F&*%^, all day?" I would consider that classless to say and then the jersey popping, give me a break! While it was entertaining like Baron Davis lifting his Jersey against Utah in the playoffs it does nothing to pop your jersey at the fans! Did he need to make a statement more than the game had already done? Hell more than the first quarter had done?
To wrap up though, Fans don't boo the players because of the tragedies they go through, which are no different than many other endure. Indeed remember it was these same Utah Jazz fans that gave that same Derek Fisher a standing ovation, and indeed one of the most memorable basketball moments I have ever witnessed live when he came back at half time during the playoffs. Love you when your are here, hate ya when you leave. It's just basketball, it's just business.... nothing personal!

The booing wasnt impersonal--it was directed at Fisher.
Kobe was mad because the fans shouldn't have booed Fisher. Kobe could care less about booing against him, since he has fans at every away arena anyway.
Yes, everyone HAS tried to see why Jazz fans would boo Derek, and it makes no sense. First of all, both sides benefited from the contract cancellation. It was a mutually consented-to decision. The Jazz regained some cap space, and Derek was able to relocate his daughter to one of the best, if not the best, medical facilities in the world. Second of all, Derek did it for good reasons.
Nobody is saying Jazz fans booed tragedy. Everyone is saying they shouldn't boo a player because he left the Jazz due to tragedy. Big difference.

Yeah, Fish was really awesome in the playoffs. Nobody could replace that sort of production he brought. Who else could go out on the floor and shoot 40%...
I'm starting to not give a damn about whether the Jazz fans are classless or not. For years people (and I use that term loosely) have been making idiotic puns like "Jazzholes" when they describe the team or they throw in a joke about Mormons or polygamy or whatever stupid unorignal comments their sad little brains can come up with. This was long before I ever heard any crying about the fans being classless. now that they have a few things to hang their hat on like Fish getting booed and a few idiots throwing things they can feel more justified in their pathetic little whining. Great, good for them.
As far as I'm concerned, I hope the Jazz fans become more classless. I hope the turn the Delta Center into a place opponents absolutely dread coming into. I hope players take it personally. Sure, sometimes like with Kobe it can backfire. Other times like when Dirk is getting booed and he starts shooting bricks more to the detrement of his team it will hurt the opponents. Maybe it will intimidate the refs into giving calls to Utah. What's the worst that can happen, a bunch of whiners come here and cry about the fans being classless?

My problem with Jazz fans is that this crap isn't knew. You have this Derek Fisher thing. THe warriors claiming they were showered with racial slurs by the crowd. And then those punks were throwing stuff at the Spurs. The Jazz fans are easily the most classless fans in the league without a doubt although there are obviously good Jazz fans out there who don't throw stuff on the court and boo Derek Fisher for trying to save his daughter. The Social Misfit wrote:I have been reading all the boards about how the Jazz fans are classless for booing Fisher when he has come back and played in Utah. while I agree there is never an excuse to throw things onto the floor, I don't think that convicts an entire fanbase of being classless. Yes, I'm sure in the minds of those that were booing Fish they were thinking to themselves "how dare he try to save his daughter" and not "I think he used his daughter's illness as an excuse to leave town." I think the latter is wrong, but for some reason that's what I believe those were booing him were thinking.

What an excellent post...

The Jazz have bad fans...just like everyone else, but they show it more than most it appears...

The one's who booed Fish are classless and dumb.
That being said I doubt they were booing him because they were angry that Fish was trying to save his daughter's life. That one is just a little too far out there for me to accept.

From ESPN.com:
Really...?
Fisher spent last season with the Jazz before asking out of his contract for family reasons. He was booed loudly when the Lakers played here in November, but got a warmer welcome Thursday night.
Bryant said the Lakers hadn't forgotten the way Fisher was received last time.
Really...?

lol.
I dont think ANYONE has even called the Jazz fans classless on thye basis of his daughter having cancer.
I think you have taken everything and misinterpreted it to the max.
The reason he was booed (as reported by many media outlets, including ESPN and FSN) was because Fisher had the "nerve" to leave Utah because he and his family needed to move to a place where his daughter's cancer could be treated.
Because Fisher signed with the Lakers he somehow lied to the Jazz about his intentions? Is that was Utah fans think? Or do you guys think Fisher, one of the most genuinely wholesome people in the NBA, would use his cancer-plagued daughter as an excuse to leave Utah?
To me, the funny part in all of this was the Jazz fans love for him when he flew back from his daughters operation so he could play. After he hit that three when he returned, he could have run for mayor, governor and prophet and won at least two out of three. They loved his commitment to his daughter then, but now hate him because he maintained his commitment to her?
How ridiculous does that sound?
