Such as... what we're allowed to argue about? It's all equally unimportant.

Yeah, your right, I forgot this was the bucks board after all........

Please, by all means, continue the pointless argument..........

I'll check back around noon to see if anyone has made any new points.....

It seems like you forgot. You were mistaking it for the Complaining About A Bucks-Related Argument Board.

Ilhan, even in the playoff season Simmons wasn't playing at the same level he showed with the Clippers (offensively and defensively) and the Wizards (defensively). His defense was sub-par and his rebounding wasn't as good. He was a very good shooter, the second best on the team behind Redd. But he also got into foul trouble a lot and struggled in other areas of the game where he had succeeded before. He did play a key part in the Bucks making the playoffs but even then he wasn't the player many envisioned him to be. And this isn't a case of hindsight - I said these exact same things during and after that season and plenty of times since. So even then, you had a player who wasn't doing all of the things that resulted in him getting a big contract.

I realize he got hurt. But my point here is that it ultimately doesn't matter to me why Simmons hasn't played well; it only matters to the Bucks that he hasn't. I'm not blaming Larry Harris for the fact Simmons got hurt. I'm saying that three years into the Simmons deal it's clear the decision was a mistake. Those of us who supported the move at the time were wrong. It happens. People make mistakes. I made a mistake in my appraisal of the Simmons signing and Harris made one in terms of signing him.

I get what you're saying - that strictly speaking, in hindsight, Harris turned out to have made a mistake on the Simmons signing because of his injury. Strictly speaking, I and everyone here agree.

However, if I'm not mistaken, you've labeled this as one of his "bad" moves. In contrast, I'd qualify this as neither a good or bad move, because he couldn't have known the future. It's like choice C in the SAT tests, where it says something like "No conclusion can be made based on the information given."

It's no secret that you don't like Harris. That's why people are criticizing your logic, because you seem to be going out of your way to bash him. I can't say I disagree with them. You've been extremely unfair in judging his tenure, often completely ignoring GAD's insider insights.

I know you and avowed Harris-hater FBF got close back in the JS days. I just hope his obvious hatred hasn't clouded your vision too.

can anyone tell me who was the best available FA the bucks could of gotten during that time for the same amount of money they paid for Simmons, before you start blaming LH for the Simmons situation. It's not like the bucks could of hold onto the money they had to spend it during that offseason.

The only player that comes to mind is SAR.

Well done, BR. When you look at it in that context, it doesn't look as bad at all. Just bad luck that Simmons' career didn't arc like it was theoretically supposed to.

BR...that is a good list and good research.....looking at those past seven winners of MIP, it does put in context what the Bucks did.

I thought it was one heck of a great move at the time. Given that Simmons was only 24 years old and you had 15 teams line up to toss him the full MLE tells you that Larry wasn't the only dope in the room.

Where it all went wrong though was that after Simmons went down in October of 2006 with his injury, LH never was able to find a replacement for him. But of course if he had been allowed to make that Marion trade, we would have been able to dump three years and $30mm of his contract on Phoenix and get Marion back.

I think Harris was a great trader.....really knew the cap and how to work that used car salesman thing. The drafting and FA signings are where he got burned.

Hey, it could be worse

We could be sitting here arguing about how to get rid of two worthless overpaid players in Etan thomas and Shareef Abdur Rahim

Instead we have Bobby Simmons and Dan Gadzuric

simmons/6th pick for marion would have been such a steal.

Dump simmons contract, get marion for a year and see what happens.

That makes me mad.

Larry Harris used Hoopshype to set in motion the original Jamaal Magloire trade. I'm going to miss the guy.
