Rondo outplayed Chris Paul

Post#1 » by cfan79 » Sun Mar 23, 2008 1:21 pm

No offense to Chris Paul fans, but Rondo outplayed him.

No one should take the stats seriously in the Hornets game. They don't tell the story of last nights matchup. Rondo made Chris Paul look silly most of the night. Chris Paul could not stop Rajon without fouling him.

He did have an excellent game and outplay CP3 (although Paul was just incredible in the clutch, I still can't believe that shot from the corner...), but unfortunately, Pargo torched Cassell and House so the PG play still ended up favoring New Orleans by a considerable amount.

Very nice bounce back game for Rondo after quite possibly the worst game of his NBA career.

I was a little scared that Rondo was rushing back and his back would become a nagging injury, but he looked like an all star.

The injury must be from the game earlier in the season where he hit his back on a cameraman's wooden seat.

Chris Paul outplayed Rondo in the final minutes though and got the win and that matters more, unfortunately for us.

He was OK, but if it wasn't for David West and Pargo he wouldn't have been in a position to win. I think it was mostly our backup guards that didn't play good enough not Rondo. Doc should have put him in sooner.

Last tiem i checked the Hornets won the game. I'm pretty sure Paul would take a win over beating out rondo on stats.

It takes more then 1 player to win a game. Refs seemed to help the Hornets a lot in the 2nd half. How many times did David West pout like Antoine Walker and get free throws?

No one claimed otherwise, chief.

This thread was just pointing out how well Rondo played/how he looked like his back injury that most thought plagued him against Dallas didn't look like it was still bothering him, as he outplayed the best point guard in the NBA.

i was at the game. the problem cp3 had was 3 fouls in the 1st half. He was faster and quicker than Rondo. He had anything he wanted all day. The celtics should take a page out of the hornets book. let rondo drive to the hoop and have pierce or allen in the corner just like NO does with pedja. DAVID WEST OWNED KG. IT WAS BAD.

He did. Garnett rarely contested his mid-range jumpers, as if he didn't know West could shoot, and West just kept hitting them over and over. I'd say this was KG's worst defensive performance as a Celtic (and honestly, the only bad defensive performance by KG I remember all year, it's amazing how great this guy is defensively).

Paul outplayed Rondo in the fourth, and he only played 5 minuets in that quarter.

You should have watched the game with your eyes open.

Rondo and Pargo didn't play against each other much. It was mostly Cassell or House on Pargo.

As cfan pointed out, that's just false. Pargo went off on Sam Cassell in the 4th to the point where Doc had to take him out and he put in House. House didn't do much better and eventually Doc had to come back w/Rondo.

I thought Doc waited too long to get Rondo back in there (he's 22, you don't need to limit his minutes), personally. His D was very solid (I would've put "very good", but he looked like he was daring Chris Paul to take that last 3 he hit. Doesn't he know Paul can shoot?) last night and his offense was damn near flawless.

to an extent i will agree with cfans original point. however, stats mean nothing in an L.

rondo did play well though, and while none of us are saying he will be as good as chris paul, he is proving he will be able to hang with the leagues best. plus paul is way more polished at this point anyway, so i expect him to play smarter than rondo. the one thing were not doing yet is let rondo really run the offense when it sputters. how about the play he took it inside late, not the one where he made the nice finish but the one just before where the whole hornets d collapsed on him and he wanted to dish it, but everyone was just standing watching him.

that cant happen. youd think at least ray would instinctually run to a spot to take the j.

I thought it was more even, dispite the lack of playing time. Rondo won the first half, Paul won the second half. So overall I thought they were even in production last night.

Paul had one less turnover, same number of assists, a very high FG% to match Rondo's, a clutch shot, and engineered that game winning comeback assualt.

I couldn't believe that KG (or the whole team, for that matter) didn't make adjustments to stop David West. He torched us from tipoff to the final buzzer.

thats not the real david west. i think kg knows that.

some nights he looks scared to shoot, or doesn't know what to do.

its so aggravating. other nights he forces it and because he is undersized, turnover city.

and then there are nights against great teams like the spurs or c's that he goes off for 35 points or something.

its a shame some players get up for great teams and not for others.

its explains losing to the pacers or wolves. usually a 19-9 guy though.

btw, imo, we use him too much. we are a better team with him, but we pound the ball to him too much, taking away ball movement.

Last time I checked the Celtics beat the Spurs twice. Once without Ray Ray and once without KG. And also, no one mentioned the score. Just thought it was cool that Rondo could outplay arguably the best PG in the NBA.

The Hornets shot 50% from the field, somehow shut our offense down, and played with more energy in the fourth quarter. They did what they had to do, next Friday will be a whole different ballgame.
