I get the worry that Kohl is going to go after a big name or two and then, when the big name(s) inevitably turns him down, he'll settle on a guy that he knows and 'trusts'. "Not much I can do, I tried, but when nothing eventuated I had to go for someone with less experience". Same as when Porter was fired.

Big names don't want to be here, the Bucks are nothing more than a chance to up their price elsewhere...or just an ego boost.

For what it's worth, I was at the Cavs game last night and got an opportunity to talk to someone quite close to Kohl. He told me that Kohl is dead set on going outside the organization and bringing in a "big name" that will win back some fans. It's all about the product.

As for how he's going to shanghai someone "big" to come here, however, well that is the problem. Saying Babcock may get to handle the draft is a way to forestall criticism and an admission of sorts that getting a "big name" to come to Milwaukee will be difficult and may drag on awhile.

That would be great.....but my biggest fear is that the big name will end up being the coach (i.e. a Carlisle or even Larry Brown) but that we won't get a true GM to run things from the top.

When Kohl made the statement at the press conference that Babcock was going to run the draft, I almost ran my car off the road. That statement sent up so many red flags. Does that mean that no GM will be in place by the draft? If so, that's absolutely ridiculous. Any GM would want to have the opportunity to pick his guys, not to mention any draft-day deals. Or does this mean that a new GM will be in place and Babcock will still have input in the draft? If the new GM agrees with Babcock and likes his drafting philosophy and wants to retain him to help that's fine with me, but if he doesn't agree with Babcock, he should have the right to clean house and hire all new scouts. I just don't want another eunuch GM.

I agree completely. The new GM has to have a free hand to shape the roster as he sees fit. And a big part of that is our upcoming lottery pick. Plus we may want to make a deal involving our players and another teams pick before the draft. Waiting until after the draft to name a GM makes no sense.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Which is why that is what the Bucks will probably do.

I bet Mike Burr and Ron Walter have already sent Kohl a memo about the savings and tax benefits of not adding another employee during the current NBA fiscal year. Better to wait until the new fiscal year begins on July 1st.

I got a way to defend it. Bring a bat to the game and kill one of them."
