Haha, it was always funny to me that Easter isn't a set date. I suppose that happens when it has to fall on a Sunday...
As to what Easter is really about, I think I know
(The culmination of Holy Week, which is the resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth three days after his death and entombment)
And as for why it is called Easter and placed around this time of year, it coincides with Passover for Judaism (that is what Maundy Thursday is all about, Jesus and his disciples celebrating Passover). It also is the Spring Equinox, and a lot of the secular Easter traditions are taken from paganism (eggs, bunnies, etc).
