Good idea: let's get Samb up here for the last 4-5 games. Kind of like what we did with Amir.

I'm guessing we won't see Ratliff a lot towards the end of the season, trying to keep him healthy.

I think we should let him play him a couple games, get him some experience for next season.

I don't get it. We just added 2 more vets making the roster even more convoluted, now we're recalling Samb?

It's obvious that they want Samb to play some before the season's done, much like they did with Amir at the end of last season.

This isn't a playoff move, just a "How likely is Samb in our future plans?" move.

I think they feel he is better off being around the team, practicing with our guys rather than playing in the D-League. I believe I read a comment on the situation saying to the effect that the D-League is a guard dominated league and thus they felt Samb wasn't getting enough offensive touches. Probably pulled him to make a point - use him and develop him or you don't get him at all. He was basically a role player, when in reality he is a NBA and should be the focus.
Rip Hamilton is a stain on the Pistons franchise.

I don't think that's "obvious" at all. In fact I think it's blatantly wrong. Low-Ki's take is FAR more likely. They just feel Samb will benefit more from being around the team than from playing in the D-League at the present time. Just because he's been recalled doesn't mean he'll even be on the active roster. It just means he'll be traveling and practicing with the team.

We only played Amir the last 4 games of the season and with our seed virtually locked up. You can't equate that to recalling Samb with 15 games to go while still battling for position and simultaneously trying to integrate two new players and settle on an actual playoff rotation. Hell, some people think we're still gonna reactive Lindsey and get him into the mix.

We aren't really battling for position. We are 5 games ahead of Orlando and 5.5 behind Boston. We don't have any chance of moving up or down. Flip even said he would be tampering with the potential rotation. He probably wants to see what every player is capable of these final 14 games. Samb will, more than likely, not be part of the active roster come playoff time, but it can't hurt to test him out.

Samb probably won't see playing time until the end of the season, probably the final 4-5 games. They just called him up early so he could refamiliarize himself with the team and be ready when he plays.

Return to Detroit Pistons
