Richard Jefferson would be a great fit, but I haven't been much of a fan of his since he intentionally elbowed TJ in the neck (and regardless of what you think of TJ, that was real shady of RJ). As a player though, he is everything we could hope for in a SF. He's a great defender, real athletic, good passer, good rebounder, and is a generally physical player which would compliment Yi (if we still have him).

I can see the Knicks being very interestd in Simmons too if we were willing to take back Jared Jeffries. If we could get them to add Lee I bet we do this kind of deal in a second, but I can see us doing it if we were real high on Balkman maybe too.

Agreed about RJ vs. TJ. That was awful.

Pierce and Garnett and Allen are playing together on offense; Pierce and Allen and Cassell and House are bad defenders but a defensive SYSTEM with a star defensive player like Garnett makes their defense work.

I believe in Bogut, I believe he can become a defensive monster, and with a coach like Thibodeaux or simply a guy that can create a defensive system our backcourt can win. If we start winning, even only a playoff trip next year, our confidence as a team and the confidence this guys would have in his teammates would grow immediately. Mo & Mike have showed it sometimes: they can play together, if they want. And if we'd win, they'd want.

The scenario midranger suggest is a dream scenario to me. Give us a coach with a defensive system and that can create a group, without hate between the players, and we are going to be good, even if the dream scenario will not come true.

Ha, his battle with Puff Daddy during the celebrity game a few years back was also a major joke.

It was funny watching him go all out against 5'7 white guys while giving Puffy death stares, but that sure didn't look like the kind of guy who would make a good leader of a team.

I forgot that we should avoid Jefferson for cap reasons.

I think winning would solve alot of ills on our team.

But that takes a commitment from the top on down. We need a clear chain of command and not Papa Kohl lording over everything, playing one against another.

Agreed. I think we can get a MLE SG to do mostly what Redd does.

Still don't have a PG in this scenario....plus I don't see NJ giving Jefferson away for absolutely nothing....IF they were to make a run at James it very well might be a sign and trade scenario which would make Jefferson a valuable commodity.

I'm exploring options.

If you don't think that the team I listed above...

Mo
Redd
Jefferson
Brand
Bogut

...would "win" (whatever that means), well, I'd have to disagree.

Besides the way to much payroll aspect, i think a lineup like that is one that looks better on paper than it would produce on the court. All five of those guys would want shots because they are used to getting them and being a fairly big to big scoring option. In general, i think most successful teams have a role player or two sprinkled in next to the scorers, guys that don't really look hard for their shot, but do the other things that help a team win.

Kirby, I think you've just punched the hole in the balloon.

Mo - $8mm
Redd -$16mm
Brand -$16mm
RJ - $15mm
Bogut -$12mm

That's $67mm and over the luxury tax with only five guys......

I think if you take RJ out of the equation and replace him with someone effective yet cheap that doesn't look quite as bad.
