why mention the jazz?
because someone said nothing is decided?

what if williams goes down tomorrow like dirk did today. would you still feel confident winning 7 of those games with jason hart as your starting point guard?

:dontknow:

nothing has been decided.

Well baring a season ending injury to Williams really, cause we'd still make the playoffs without any other starter. Still, that's highly unlikely given he's missed 4 games in 3 years, including none this season.

Oh and why mention the Jazz, because as a fan of the Jazz, I feel it's my duty to stand by them, and mind you I don't act like "Tom Heinsohn" when I do it. I'm really not a homer.

nowitzki's averaged just 2.5 games missed each season over his entire career. that's nothing. (especially considering a handful of those were games where he was held out after a playoff spot/seed had been clinched)
if anyone else for dallas went down, they probably would have been a lock too.

i hope you understand what i'm saying.
in this conference, at this time of the season, with this few games separating every team...you can't take anything for granted.

If their seasons are so tremendous, then they should just make the playoffs - no questions asked. The fact that they cannot, even at the level of competition that the West has is no reason to reward them with a high lottery pick.

To the original poster: the Sixers would have to see this season as a success given they way they've played in their first full season without AI. One can argue that they deserve the record they have. I hope they get to the point that many of the teams in the west are that think in terms of winning a championship, not making the playoffs.

The Nuggets have played below their talent level in many spots. They attention to defense and just general on court discipline is their reason for not making it. One could argue that the makeup of their team speaks towards this weakness. A number 1 pick will not solve that. Nor will moving the playoff format or them to the east.

Every team has to play the schedule that's given to them. If they make a success out of it, then they should be rewarded with a championship.

Can't believe this thread had 9 pages. It is as simple as saying the east sucks, but of course alot of people try and justify it and argue it.

Hopefully Stern wakes up and changes the playoff format and then only worthy eastern teams (top 4) will get in

There would be 10 Western teams and 6 Eastern teams if there was a top 16 format.

Just thought I would bump this just to show how silly this thread was in the first place, anything is still possible a lot of bball left to be played.

I still don't think the Nuggets will make the playoffs. They are in right now, but I think they will out soon again.

I disagree I think Dallas is left out, Denver gets the 7th seed and Golden State gets the 8th.

like i said in yesterdays game thread...

they have tiebreakers with dallas and golden state.
dallas is without nowitzki, and even with him they've lost to every decent team they've played.
dallas and golden state play each other twice in the upcoming week. that means denver's guaranteed to gain at least 1/2 game on each without doing anything....and they could gain a game on either.

golden state and dallas both have more games against .500 teams than denver does.
denver's offense has been smoking since the all-star break. 117ppg, 50% shooting, 40% 3, 28 assists. and they play better defense than dallas and golden state.

kmart looks like new jersey kmart.
jr smith is playing better than he ever has in his career (20/5/7 last night)
nene just returned and his minutes will be increased through the remainder of the season.

but they still won't make it?

going against the odds there.

PS: I don't want to hear any crap about which division they play in.

even though its 100% a result of the conferences (not divisions you idiot). in the west phill has 0 chance of making the playoffs. out east, the nuggets would make it 100% of the time this year. your thread = fail.

Denver owns the tiebreakers over Dallas and GSW.

Do you realize the significance of that?

If GSW wins against Dallas tonight, they're back in.

and Denver moves to the #7 seed.

That's why these past few days have been so huge for Denver. Now if there's a 3-way tie, Denver will always take #7 and GSW and Dallas get 8 and 9.

Denver could still get the division only 2.5 games back of Utah for that 4th seed and we have another game against the Jazz.

We do against Dallas......not officially against the Warriors yet(we do at the moment), it can still change.
