It's a miracle this team is .500

Post#1 » by is1531 » Sun Mar 23, 2008 2:37 pm

We see night in and night out that big Sam Dalembert has no hands and no post-up game, but can rebound and alter shots. We see Reggie Evans getting his shots blocked in every game, his foul shoots clanking, but his rebounds are always there for him. We see an average starting player at the 2 guard in Wilie Green, who is an average finisher at best. We see a good player in Mr Iggy, who dribbles the ball into the wall. Carney throws up an air ball on an opened baseline shot. How many big games has Jason Smith had this season?

In reality I like Miller,Young and Lou Williams. I would probably appreciate Evans a lot more, if we had some scorers off the bench. Personally, this team is not exciting for me to watch because I have seen great 76ers teams going back to the 60's. In fact the starting lineup on the 76ers is just flat out boring, especially when Young is not starting.

Now that we see Young starting one game and not the next game, based on mathchups, I think his game is slipping a litttle bit. Young made a great play on defense against the Nets, then feeding the ball to Mr Iggy for the dunk.

Later in the game Young did not get the same respect back from Mr Iggy. The 76ers were on a 3 on 1 break with Iggy in the middle and Young on the left and Lou on the right. Young was opened, but Mr Iggy chose to pass the ball underneath on the right side to a smaller Williams, who then threw the ball across the baseline to Young, who missed the layup. Young missed the layup, but the defense had already closed down on Young. Iggy does some things that I do not understand.

It's amazing because their was a point in the game the 76ers were up by 8 points, when 2 Lou Williams turnovers lead to 4 Nets points, but his mistakes never prevent him from getting his touches.

Every game the 76ers win this season is nothing more than gravy, since I was not expecting more than 30 wins. However come June 25th, All eyes focus on Ed Stefansky.

Here is something to keep your eyes out for:If Blake Griffin comes out, look for the Bulls to try and trade up to get Griffin. Griffin is a guy who can do it all, but if I were Griffin, I would stop diving for balls, otherwise he will keep going on the injured list, just like Gerald Wallace. Blake, just rebound, play defense , score and let the little guys do the diving.

really good example...i know exactly what play your talking about...to be fair, williams has earned the respect of teammates for hitting tough shots and while thad has done nothing to "not earn" the respect, i dont think he has been out there enough to get it quite yet...the smart play for iggy was to give the ball to thad esp since it wouldve been on thads strong side (left)...williams did try to get it to thad and the shot was contested but it still was a makable bunny...it couldve been solved if iggy went to the left in the begining but they didnt...

thads going to be a player but hes starting to hit a little wall here on the offensive end...his rebounding has been terrific and his defense is improving by the day but he is starting to not shoot 65%...i mean thats how good this kid was, he was shooting over 60% from the field...he will be fine nd they will incorporate him in the offense next season, this year he will just have to get his points on broken down plays/breaks

He's hitting a rookie wall and opponents are starting to pay attention to him.

It's not a wall, it's the law of averages. He couldn't keep up shooting 65% from the field. He's still shooting 56% from the field this month.

Thaddeus is a major reason why one day this team will be a lot of fun to watch. Right now my focus is adding a PF like Kevin Love or Jason Thompson and adding a a 2 guard that can do it all. This year the season ends in the middle of April, but the 76ers season will resume on June 25th, the night of the draft.

I do not want to play Orlando in the ist round of the playoffs. They have too much size for us. If we play Orlando, Cheeks should forget the double teams on Howard and just stop Turkoglu, Lewis and the others.

I would like to see Cheek go back and start Thaddeus, which I think would give him more confidence. I do not think juggling the lineup is a good thing for Young's head. Afterall, we are not playing for a title. We are trying to build a future in Philadelphia

I find this team to be extremely exciting. They have been wining most of their games- and usually unexpected wins. If they were a great team it would not be such a pleasant surprise to have them playing at such a high level.

I agree that this team has a lot of work to do to become a consistent winner. I also share your frustration with Mo going back to his old failed starting line-up of Sam-Evans-Dala-Green-Miller. Luckily our deep, explosive bench was enough to get us back in the game. Thad should start every game, and Green or Evans should sit depending on the match-up.

I don't understand the frustration with Dala. He has improved and been a leader for this team. He is so much more of an impact player than he looked to be back when he was playing alongside AI and Webber 15 months ago. No reason why he won't continue to develop as other players like Lou and Thad become better weapons next to him- and hopefully Ed brings in an impact player at SG or PF to help lessen Dala's offensive burden.

I think he is a player with a load of talent. I do not think you want to mess with this guy in a dark alley or a light alley, lol. He does fit the 76ers in every possible way. One draft board has moved him down over 10 picks from 16 to 26. That is fine with me. Thompson or Love are fine for me when the 76ers make their selection.

As Thad gets stronger, hopefully those contested layups will be dunks...there were a few in the Nets game where I thought he'd go for the dunk, but missed the layup. It's a lot to ask of a 19 year old, and he's doing great, but that is one area I think he'll improve upon as he gets stronger. As Sixerscan said, he's still well over 50% in FGAs, so you really can't complain with the his play...it will be fun to watch him develop further.

It's scary to think that Young already has what appears to be a solid NBA body. If this kid fills out like I expect him to, he's going to be a beast in two to three years time.

+1

He's already gotten bigger during the season. He and Dala both have that no-neck build you usually see on football players. This, from his blog:
March 13, 2008
Against Detroit, I got my first taste of playing against a vet team that knows how to take advantage of mis-matches and rookies. They came my way four plays straight with me guarding a bigger, and stronger, Antonio McDyess! I picked up two fouls and had to sit the remainder of the first half. It was cool though - I just have get in the weight room!
