I was looking at some stats tonight, and figured I would throw these up (if its a waste I can get rid of this, just was going to use this thread to plot through rest of season). Even so Giri was not in the trade, he basically was picked up to replace Banks roster spot. Do they really mean anything? Probably not, but you can see trends.

General Notes:
--Much better Rebounding (including offensive)
--Much higher FG %, from less shots
--Much higher TO rate
--Steals way down
--FT % actually not that much different (much worse if broken down)
--More balanced minutes between 2 players
--Blocks actually down, not huge when looked at blocks per 48mins
--More Efficient 3s (when broken down as per game, since Shaq doesn't actually take any)
--Opp PPG difference = pretty good (take out first lakers game = 100.8ppg)
--Point Differential = CRAZY!

Overall, much better rebounding, more efficient scoring. Turn the ball over like crazy though. Thought these were interesting, since people were saying we lost a lot (stat wise), through Marion. Will be interesting to chart through the end of the season with this. Obviously first few games throw it off a bit, but I am sure the Suns starting the season were out of sync too. Overall thoughts?

you can also add the fact that as banks wasnt playing and giri is, that we added a rotation player, especially one who can cover if hill / bell go down (as bell just has)

and you havent factored in the improvement in amare now that he has a player to help him stay out of foul trouble, factor that in and this trade clearly has improved the suns

Yeah the Amare Improvement Factor (AIF) is the most significant statistic.

Would also be curious about the Opponent FG% and PPG.

Hi, I made some updates. I had to do a lot by hand since defense is hard to find as a split. Note our point differential, only second to the Celtics (comparing after trade to year). I will try to figure out Opp FG when i have a big calculator and some time tonight

That is really nice. We can still see where we are flawed as a team. But overall I don't think that there has been a team to out rebound us since Shaq has played.

Amare needs to rebound 2 or 3 more times a game. I would like him to step up in that department so that he can get an average of 10+ per game.

Nash's assists have been less but that IMO has happened because others have stepped up like Hill.

Now that Bell has hit his stride and it came at the right time. I worry about him coming back again.

Giricek is def an upgrade over Banks, good thing we were able to get rid of Marcus' fat contract.

We're a better rounded team, even with the perimeter defense downgrade. Just hope we get our assist/TO ratio back up in time for the playoffs...

Looks like Marion's getting an MRI on his back as well - so maybe the Suns knew something else we didn't. Knock on wood, but who would have thought Shaq would be a 30 MPG force while Marion hasn't dressed 5 of the last 6 nights due to back issues. Now, it could be part of the tanking process, but it seems his back problem is legit.

Didn't Marion have a back injury several seasons ago? Perhaps it's the same type of injury.

Hahaha AP a few months behind: Suns forward Shawn Marion received the results on his MRI Monday , which showed he just has back spasms. He's considered day-to-day. He has missed six of the last seven Suns games.
