If the Hawks make the playoffs Al Horford should ......

Post#1 » by atlsun » Tue Mar 25, 2008 7:38 am

Be Rookie of the year.

No matter who you are in life the most difficult in a job, is to earn the respect of your peers and the people you work with.

Just listen to what is teammates had to say about him.

"Listen, Kevin Durant's a good friend of mine and a great player," Law said, "but for what Al contributes to our team, what he means to this team and how important he is to the resurgence of this franchise, I don't see how anybody but Al could win this award.

"Durant is having a great scoring year. But as far as making his teammates better and his team better, you just don't see that. With Al in the game, he makes it easier on all of our players. I think it's his award, hands down. It shouldn't even be close."

"For me, and I know I'm a bit biased, but I've got to go with Big Al," Hawks captain and All-Star Joe Johnson said after practice Monday with Marvin Williams screaming "no-brainer" repeatedly as he walked past. "He's been great for us, no question. He's certainly helped turn this program around. He's got my vote no doubt. He's done more than what anyone could have asked of him as a rookie."

and this is what the coach had to say about him.

"I think for what he's done for our ball club, taking a man out of college and playing him out of position the way we have, he's handled it with flying colors," Hawks coach Mike Woodson said. "He's just a different rookie, and I've dealt with a bunch of them since I've been here. But he's unique. This guy has done everything on and off the floor that you could as a rookie to do. And he's never complained about nothing. I mean nothing."

And I love him because he's battle tested. He's been through it all in college. And it really prepared him for our league. To be putting up a double-double every night in this league as a rookie,
without a single play being called for him, that's unreal. Once in a while a rookie comes along and does something like that. I'll put it this way, we'd be lost without him."

Woodson has been our coach for a long time and he has never praised any rookie like this.

and what does Al horford have to say about all this well:

"Making the playoffs is the only thing on my mind," Horford said. "Honestly, I haven't spent a second thinking about anything else."

This is not KD hate thread but Honestly Al Horford is a knowledgeable basketball fans rookie of the year.

the hawks are nine games under .500. making the playoffs like that or quoting a bunch of his teammates/coaches isn't going to change anyone's mind. the hawks a lot of talent for a record like that.

^yea I agree with you , we should have a better record. I think we have better rosters than philly and Washington, but what can you do, what you want me to say woodson is a bad coach, ok.

Woody is a bad coach.

Wow, a player's teammates and coaches are praising him? Screw the ROY award, give him a Nobel prize!

Who decides on the Rookie of the Year award anyway? NBA Committee? Players or coaches votes?

Obviously, if we want to consider the W's.... Horford should run away with it...

That would be a very narrow minded way of looking at it. Horford has Joe Johnson, Josh Smith, Marvin Williams et al on his team. Durant has... Chris Wilcox? Earl Watson?

Seattle is just a completely untalented franchise besides Durant, and Jeff Green is looking like a bust.

Glen Davis is on the best team in the league, and they have the biggest turnaround of any team since he was drafted!

Its not going to happen.

Melo had a lot better argument for being ROY when Lebron won, but that wasnt even a close contest. Horfords argument for winning over Durant is quite a bit weaker.

Horford should be ROY regardless of whether or not the Hawks make the playoffs.

If we looked at wins Scola would run away with it. They almost had more straight than hawks had total
