Kobe will have a better career than MJ...
People have said many of times. Not only on this board, but everywhere. On the news, broadcaster's, analysts, and others. NBATV (this is an old video from Spring 2007) questions this, and Rick Kamla breaks down what Kobe has to do just to match MJ.

In no ways am i saying kobe is better , all im saying the way this video is designs it seems like your comparing Larry bird with Brian Cook.
I agree, how dare Kobe fans have the audacity to argue he's better than MJ!

Far and away the biggest thing that separates the two is defensive impact, due to Jordan's incredible physical gifts and superior stamina (neither of which Kobe can really touch), and MJ's consistency (mostly due to those great physical gifts) that was equally as unreal. Jordan was a better 2-way player, even if he did play against inferior competition both at his position and in terms of competition/conference-wise.
So Kobe can never match MJ in terms of actual individual impact, and it's unlikely he'll win as many Finals MVPs or regular season MVPs anyway (not that those are good gauges). Even if he did, you'd have to be nuts to take Bryant over guys like prime Kareem, Wilt, MJ, and yes Magic. About the closest you can come to saying Kobe is the GOAT is in terms of skill set, especially considering he has never been a cream of the crop athlete.

The guy in the video doesn't compare their careers this way, he mentions what Kobe NEEDS to do just to be on Jordan's level, and if you actually watch the video on what he talks about, you realize its nearly impossible for Kobe to reach MJ.

i think 99% of the board is in agreement that jordan>kobe. there are varying opinions on how much better jordan was but for the most part any competent basketball fan has a pretty good idea.
i think that the next couple years with the kobe/gasol/odom/bynum core will be the time where he could take that leap into the top-tier of players though. he'll really need to lead the them to a couple of championships in order to get to that bird/magic/kareem level. I only put MJ on that untouchable level and maybe wilt but I never saw him play. i don't want to put down the first 3 chips but shaq really was the leader of those teams (although he wouldn't have had as many, if any, without kobe)
so although it's almost impossible for kobe to catch up to jordan, we can't really measure how good he is all-time for at least a few more years until he deteriorates.

Career's aren't only just defined by championships. We have to understand that Jordan revolutionized basketball. Kobe hasnt really done that...not his fault, he just came into the league after Jordan. Jordan's career will always be better than Kobe's and most people for a long time to come.

This is Kobe's quote from his journey video, "I define success by championships, by winning... You know, I don't kind of go by the motto of if you give it your best and if you come up short, oh well, I'm not with that." They showed it earlier on NBATV.
