Haslem's season, Heat career possibly over
A teary-eyed Udonis Haslem said Tuesday that the last thing he wanted to do was give up on this season and his teammates.

But with an MRI showing a bone spur by his left ankle, the Heat power forward was held out of Tuesday's game against the Bucks, will also miss Wednesday's game in Toronto, and appears headed toward season-ending surgery.

"I've never quit before in my life," Haslem said of the perception that, one by one, the Heat's veterans are bailing on a season that still has 18 games remaining. "I just don't like the way it looks to the outside."

Tuesday marked the sixth consecutive game and 17th in the last 22 that Haslem has missed with what had been listed as a sprained ankle.

Haslem's eyes welled as he spoke outside the Heat locker room at the Bradley Center.

"I hate for it to end like this," he said. "My eyes are getting watery.

"It's a bad situation all the way around. The whole situation just stinks."

Surgery could come as soon as Thursday. Haslem said he never has had basketball-related surgery or anything beyond minor surgery for a torn eardrum.

UD's attitude is truly remarkable.. Too bad due to his position and great contract he will be on his way out-- if the Heat does receives the #1 pick or decides to go for Elton Brand.. Unless they keep him around as sixth man ?

There is no way the Heat are going to get rid of Haslem ---especially at his below-market-value contract--- unless they get a really great offer.

They didn't even want to part with him for Bibby.

if we get the chance at Beasley I actually like the idea of having Haslem mentor him off the court and also in the weight room and practice gym. Beasley will instantly be a better pro then Udonis but I think they would make a great combo at the PF spot. considering Udonis can play center in short spurts and Beasley will most likely be able to play SF in short spurts, I think keeping them both is the way to go.

unless we can get a player like Jose Calderon or another 08 1st rounder (13-17 range) I say NO to a Udonis Haslem trade.

I love Haslem but look at the Leon Powes, Brand Bass, Landry, Wilcox, Turiaf, Millsap...

LOL, theres so many guys like Haslem..if someone gives us good value because they like Haslem as a "champion" and a good "leader" and "locker room guy" .. and we can get a center, or even a shooter..then we got to do it. (thats if we draft Beasley)

The thing is, none of those guys are Haslem. That's like saying, "There's so many guys like Wade. Antonio Daniels, Ben Gordon, Larry Hughes..."

There's a reason why every other message board on RealGM has posts looking for a "Haslem-type" guy. He's the prototypical role player.

Find me another guy who can hold Dirk to below 40% shooting, hold Rasheed under 10 ppg, hit clutch jumper after clutch jumper, put up double-doubles, and catch every pass thrown his way. Haslem is a unique guy, and someone who is extremely difficult to replace.
