Hughes: Playing Hard Not Always Smart

Post#1 » by dockingsched » Wed Mar 26, 2008 2:13 pm

talk about misleading title. larry hughes never says that "playing hard not always smart". he simply says that sometimes simply playing hard isn't enough, you have execute too. i know its the title of the column but damn, realgm's wiretap goes down the drain with every day that passes.

Remember when Hughes didn't suck?

Anyways, yeah, he never said that playing hard wasn't smart. He said you can't simply play hard, you have to play hard and execute, meaning play hard AND play smart.

Seems like a disguised shot at the coaching staff. Pretty much all Boylan ever says about the team is that "we didn't have energy" or "we didn't play hard enough." Nor him or Skiles shave hardly ever mentioned anything about "our game plan wasn't a good one tonight" or "we weren't able to exploit what their defense was doing." Cliff Levingston thinks that this is basically a way of Larry saying "there's many more things we could be doing to attack offensively or defensively but we're not."

Eh, I actually kinda agree with what Hughes says in this article. It's not that teams don't play hard. But it is more important to be smart than just to play hard.

Oh my god...Hughes is a walking excuse. Pretty soon he'll be saying that the smart thing to do is sit on the bench because you can get injured when you play on the court.

Everyone will be here saying "'You know what...Larry Hughes is right. If you dont play you cant get hurt, so he has a point".

This guy is a bum and a complete loser. Dont listen to anything he says. Everything he says is an excuse.

and responses like that is exactly why the headline is so irresponsible.

I don't like the guy, but read the article. The title is misleading which is what the OP was getting at.

I read the article, I'm just saying dont listen to Hughes. He just makes excuses. He'll be saying that "Chicago is not a good fit for me" by the beginning of next season.

The guy is a LOSER!

Its not just the wiretap either, it was the title of the article.

yeah i wrote that in my initial post. realgm doesn't have to copy the title of the article, and i'm pretty sure its common to either put the title, good quote, or something else in the wiretap. if realgm always puts the title of the article then my apologies about the wiretap, if it doesn't, then change the headline.

edit: two examples of what i'm talking about currently on the wiretap. the dirk article doesn't have the title in the wiretap, instead its some question. the walsh article title is slightly altered, something that should have been done here.

"Playing hard not always smart" leads the reader to think that playing hard isn't a smart thing to do in all situations.

"Playing hard, not always smart" leads the reader to think that the team is playing hard, but not consistently playing smart.

The title is simply missing a comma, but it makes all the difference.

yeah, would have made all the difference.

they also could have used the secondary title.

"Hughes: Execution is most important factor". thats a lot closer to what hughes said, though he never says whats more important, playing hard or playing smart. he just says u need both.

Yep, and he basically said that the Bulls have the "playing hard" part down but not the "playing smart" part down, quite obviously.
