Who are the Hawks building around?

Post#1 » by 99 Problems » Wed Mar 26, 2008 10:42 pm

I was wondering with Joe Johnson/Marvin Williams/Josh Smith/Horford and now Bibby, are there one or two guys that look to be the odd person out? Who is your management building around?

I don't think you guys could afford to keep all of them long term... so maybe Marvin or Joe are available?

Who knows right now. I think many Hawks fans would say Smith and Horford are the 2 pieces that we probably wouldnt trade. Whether or not we are building around them is perhaps a seperate issue. I think arguments could be made for both of them.

Marvin is much more available in my book than JJ.

If it was up to me it would be Horford, and Horford only.

i think the big problem is, horford has to be the long-term 4, which leaves smith and williams to decide who plays at the 3. and, as much as i love josh smith, i think playing josh at the 3 will really limit our offensive capabilities - even if marvin is only a jump shooter, it's the one skill we need to spread the floor out there more. so, i honestly wouldn't be surprised to see josh smith be moved eventually - especially with the chance to sell high in a sign-and-trade this summer. but it won't happen, he's too popular. so we will see.

JJ available ? I'd lose ANY faith in this franchise if they traded him ! I think J. Smith will stay here because many fans and the ownership seem to be very high on him. Marvin is very inconsistent up to this point, so we'll see what he brings next year, when he'll be playing for his next contract, but I find it hard to see any of these 2 fowards and Horford leaving.

As of now, I would say Marvin is the odd man out. His game is slumping and his minutes are decreasing as a result. Childress is performing at a much higher level than Marvin. So I think while he still has some value, the Hawks has to ship him off.

I agree about Marv which is ironic considering he was the only player we drafted in the BK era who people considered to have "franchise" potential.

I don't necessarilly think we are building around anyone right now. We don't have any player that has shown himself to be talented enough to "build around". Joe is closest, he is a guard that could probably be the best player (and definitely best scorer) on a 50 win team. Smith still has the most potential out of the group. Horford will be a solid player for a long time. I guess we are building around those three.

I really do think that in lieu of a real franchise player we could make a very solid team around those 3 guys. Maybe Marv evolves into the pure shooter/lockdown defender we need at the 3 but he isn't really a cornerstone. I'd like to see what we can do with Bibby when he isn't hobbled and they have an offseason to learn plays but I doubt he is considered a big part of the future. Chil has a place with this team if we can afford him but he certainly isn't a guy you want to be one of your best players.

I think that Bibby is definitely short term, and is there to bridge the gap between the idiots we had, and acie law being ready. I think our core is JJ, Horford, and Smoove, with chill being the sixth man. Obviously that means MArvin is the odd man out. I think that next season we will have a better view of what is going to happen. Basically, I can't see JJ or Al moving. I also cant see us letting smoove get away. Therefore, depending on the market, I would say that Bibby, Marvin, and maybe chill may be gone in the next couple of years.

Starters in 2 years

Law
JJ
Smoove
Horford
