I'd sign with the rebuilding team for max money ... A losing team means a lottery team ... Two years of basement dwelling would ensure high lottery picks in successive seasons ... Draft two cornerstones, then you're right back in the playoff picture ... The max money makes a couple years of losing worth it ... If the losing does begin to take its toll, you could always demand a trade, the money is guaranteed anyway ...

It really depends on if I'm the marketing giant of Lebron and Jordan
or lackluster like Tim Duncan.
If I'm the marketing giant then I do the Jordan paycut in the 90s when he took the cut to resign Pippen and/or Rodman for the 2nd 3-peat. But Jordan did it because he was still making more money through endorsements then he could in the league.
So then I convince one or two other vets to take the cut and go to a team with ideal cap situations and I'll get group endorsements to supplement their pay. We fill the rest of our team and win for 10years straight. And become the best individual, team, and dynasty ever.
Championships and money.

Max money on a rebuilding team.
1. You can do great things with that extra money and still be able to live comfortably enough to sustain your own family
2. Being a fundamental part of a rebuilding process gives you a legacy with the team. So long your out there trying your hardest, the fans will love you, giving you a nice bond with the city in which you play.
That said the only NBA cities I could really live in are Seattle, SanFran (Oakland) and Toronto. I'd especially love to play in Seat... oh damn

Max contract. If I'm really on par with Lebron or at least on his level, teaming up with Durant, our team will be a playoff team in 1-2 years and a contender by the 4th or 5th if we add another (or 2) key players.
