Second Round Steal?

Post#1 » by MoBSTa » Thu Mar 27, 2008 3:34 pm

What do you think about Derrick Caracter, Going Pro?

I know he has been a little rowdy, and hasn't controlled his weight issues or been the first in the gym but I think he could be a second round steal for some team.

Just wanted to know what you all thought about him..

It's kind of disappointing to see how much he's fallen, since he was arguably the top prospect of his class about six years ago and lost it solely due to work ethic. He still has some potential of course, but he'd have to have a really strong work ethic to get there and right now he just doesn't and I doubt he ever will. I see him likely being out of the NBA by the end of his first contract, with a slim, slim chance at having a solid career, so I guess that's worth a late second round pick, but he has no place on the C's, with his character and that we already have a plethora of undersized PFs on the bench.

He was compared to Antoine Walker at one point.

I wouldn't write the guy off based on what I read. He's more in shape now than Charles Barkley ever was in college, and his per minute college stats aren't that much worse than Barkley's...and we have to remember he plays for Rick Pitino. What NBA caliber big men has he coached? Nazr Mohammed was probably the best, no? You could look at that as a poor statement re: Caracter or you could consider that Pitino isn't well geared towards coaching big men and Caracter's game is suffering as a result?

Six years ago Caracter was a potential seven footer. Because the lack of further body development his stock fell. If he would have been a seven footer right now he'd be a top 10 pick. Even without great work ethic.

second round steal

I would rather draft his teammate david padgett. Pagett is a good center and would fill the one minor weakness the C's have asa team a backup center to perk. Padgett would fill that need perfectly. He is the best passing big man in the country. H e doesn't have great rebounding numbes but that is because he is utilized away from the basket by louisville sometimes as a point center. A good fit for the celtics. Also being a college senior he brings some help right away notlike when you draft an underclassmen.
