What does this team need to get to the next level? ('Ship)
Despite having a stud 20/10 power forward and future HOFer, and a future HOF calibre coach according to some geniuses on this site, the Wizards are still mired in mediocrity.
They still play awful interior and perimeter defense. They still get little as far as production in the paint and they struggle to grab defensive boards. They still play down to their competition. It's been the same issues for the past 4 seasons.
Is it coaching? Is it personnel? A combination of both?
Since I'm an imbecile and some of you guys are obviously basketball gurus, please tell me what the Wizards need in order to get that shiny metal at the end of the year.

If this team was 100% healthy (which it will never be) it still wouldn't be enough to win a championship. Might win a series and maybe even two but I think the Wiz would still be missing that final piece.
A veteran than can provide toughness and a bit of edge. An upgrade at coach. Note I said an upgrade, not knocking EJ, he's certainly better than alot of coaches in the L, but I'm not sold on him as a "championship caliber" coach.

Better health would go a long ways. I think that 100% healthy they could beat any team in the East in a 7-game series. That said, to be a title contender, I think they could use a frontcourt thug rebounder/defender who could play PF and C. Basically a big guy to be an enforcer, set picks, not take crap from anyone. Someone who will say Kevin Garnett and Tim Duncan are overrated.

Interesting. So do you agree that Jamison (nor any of our other bigs) are NOT that guy?
I agree with you and said just as much in the game thread last night. This team is presently soft in the middle. I think it has to do with the perpetual smallball-ish lineups that EJ plays, and also the fact that we really don't have that type of player on the team.
A healthy team would be nice, but it seems as though when the Wizards are healthy, they still suffer from the same deficiencies.
