Shaq: "Garnett doesn't play defense"

Post#1 » by The Rondo Show » Thu Mar 27, 2008 6:54 pm

But Garnett is anchoring the best defensive team in the NBA and has totally transformed the Celtics.

"Garnett doesn't play defense," Shaq said.

I can respect him hyping up his teammate Amare (much like KG has done for Pierce, and Pierce has done for KG), but KG doesn't play defense? LOL, what an idiot.

Speaking of not playing defense, nice job by Shaq last night getting boned on the boards by Kendrick Perkins and having a double-double dropped on his fat ass by arguably the least offensively skilled Boston Celtic.

Amare is only one of the worst defensive big men in the league.

Too many 3 seconds violations. The refs hesitated to make the call. Shaq better starts to move his ass before David Stern starts noticing.

How long has the 3 second rule been in place. Last night Tommy was talking about how the celts used to nail Wilt with it. The whole team would jsut start yelling 3 seconds when wilt was in there for a while. I started watching basketball around when Shaq joined the L. I thought that was a rule made for him.

What about defensive 3 seconds?

Shaq just can't get over the fact that he's washed up.

I remember when Shaq was on the Lakers and I would count as soon as he got into the paint...1...2....3...4...5...6...7..8...sometimes 10 **** seconds, and he'd NEVER GET CALLED FOR IT.

And nice D last night Shaq...you should talk.

Didn't Rondo even stuff his ass once? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

Bruno, good question. The 3 seconds rule was here when I was in high school 25 years ago.

Are you serious? You don't know what defensive 3 seconds is?

When the NBA brought in zone-defense into the NBA (yes, back in the days, you could only play man-to-man in the NBA) they needed a way to prevent the centers from just camping out inside. Thus, defensive 3 second. Of course, if the offensive player is in the paint, then you can't get called for it. Before the zone-D in the NBA, you had to either cover your man 1-on-1 or just double completely. For example, if you have a guy posting up, you couldn't have a guard play half way between his man and the post guy. He had to commit one way or the other.

Wasn't the 3 second rule put in place because of George Mikan?

Yeah, I think so. It was definitely way before Wilt. I think the rule they put in for Wilt was the free throw rule where you can't just throw the ball off and dunk it or something like that.

Yeah from what I've read Mikan would **** CAMP in the paint...tent, fire, marshmallows, the whole shebang.

Shaq does much the same!

It's been going on his whole career, taken to its apex during his Laker days. They could have instituted a 30 second rule and he still would have broken it.

Yet he bitches all the time when people get pissed off and resort to hack-a-Shaq in order to make him EARN his points....

Let's clarify things here.

OFFENSIVE 3-seconds has been a rule for decades.

But was there a DEFENSIVE 3-second rule before zone defenses were allowed?

DOn't take Shaq insults/ or trash talk to heart. He dumps on anyone who's not his team mate and is good.
