I have an idea: he's not allowed to choose a new name under Week 6 of the NFL regular season. Even though it will fall before Nov 19, it's good timing.
If the Pats lose before that time, he keeps the name for another year. If they go into Week 6 with a 5-0 record, he has the opportunity to choose a new name, but only until the day before the Pats play. It would be sacrilege to give up a name like that while the Pats are undefeated, right?
And if they win in Week 6, we repeat in Week 7, and so forth. The catch: if he opts to keep the name for another week and they lose, he's stuck with it for another year.
It'll be a weekly test to see what matters more: not looking like a complete fool for 8+ months of the year, or loyalty to his team.
