What becomes of "The Big Waste" Scott Pollard?
Hes obviously left off of the playoff roster, but if the team wins a title does he get a ring also? Could we waive him and sign another player?

sarcasma:
Scot had a serious ankle injury from before training camp (torn tendon); that required surgery to correct.
He will get a ring if the team does.
He may also be back. Since drafting a player that can contribute is unlikely, the team will likely choose between a recuperated Scot Pollard (will be 34 next February) versus PJ Brown (will be 39 next November).
One of the two will likely be re-signed.

is that possible?
This year, we can't sign-and-trade for anybody, since the trade deadline is passed.
If Danny waived Pollard, it would leave a bad taste in the mouths of a lot of his players, and in agents / players around the league. You don't cut somebody mid-season do to injury; it rarely, if ever, happens.
Who would we sign, anyway? I can't imagine picking up anyone who would contribute. What do we need a new 15th man for?

pollard should geta ring
Scot should geta ring a he is stillon the teams roster. Scot hada bad ankle in training camp.It was never right though. Scot played a key role at certain times. I do rememeber this year his big gane was against Houston at the Garden he had like tenpoints and made key baskets to keep us ahead. I think he has a 50% chance of coming back. PJ brown will retire but could come back if we don't win.. A good thing to dois for ainge to drafta big in the first round with the last pik of the round. I don't mean a tweener like powe or baby who been very good but we could use a 7 footoer with some skills. I really like david padgettt he would be the perfect backup to perk. Perhaps we draft padgett and sign a end of te bench roles player to work with padgett.

There seems to be an unwritten rule with NBA teams to not cut a guy loose who is injured until:
1) he is rehabilitated
2) his recuperation is deemed not able to make further progress
This goes for any NBA team.
Doc has already said, more than once, that the Celtics would not have signed PJ
if Scot Pollard had been healthy.
That essentially, PJ took Scot's place.
PJ is playing like crap so far, by the way.
The 5 guys on the deep bench's stats:
PJ Brown: 9 games, 95 minutes, 6-25 FG's, 15-22 FT's., 34 rebs (16 offensive), 5 TO's, 18 pts
S. Pollard: 22 games, 173 min, 12-23 FG's, 13-17 FT's, 37 rebounds (14 off), 5 TO's, 37 pts
S. Cassell: 9 games, 153 minutes, 20-59 FG's, 14 rebounds, 19 assists, 13 TO's, 6 steals
G. Pruitt: 12 games, 68 minutes, 11-29 FG's, 0 FT's !, 6 rebounds, 8 assists, 4 TO's
B. Scalabrine: 42 games, 431 minutes, 26-82 FG's, 13-41 3 PT. FG's, 63 reb, 32 ass, 23 TO's
1) he is rehabilitated

I mean sign and trade him in the summer. If we signed him, he'd have bene here 3 straight years, and that could qualify him for Bird rights for a sign and trade...maybe?

We already have Kandi's Bird rights. The problem with signing-and-trading him for a high-salaried player has more to do with "base year compensation" rules, which make it almost impossible to make a trade work.

I forgot about Kandi's years with Minnesota counting towards Bird rights.
I understand now about the BYC, thanks. So that's why Van Horn could be and PJ Brown could have been used in sign and trades - because their original salaries were big. Meanwhile, Aaron McKie and potentially Olowokandi have relatively low salaries and BYC would throw everything off if they got raises for sign and trade purposes.
Now I feel better that we're not missing some golden opportunity to trade Olowokandi for Pau Gasol next summer.
