That move needs a name, I think they should call it Rondo.

Move? It's a pretty basic basketball play (to be honest it was a bit of a carry but they do that all the time in the NBA). That's what made AI's crossover so dominating - the fact that you palm the ball a bit..

I didn't think it was that great a move or anything, you probably see a similar type move every other game from various players. It just looked a little crazy because Nash (a notoriously bad defensive player) jumped in the wrong direction.

yeah, it's not hard to make steve nash look foolish. Even telfair has done it this year.

It was a fine crossover.

But it says a ton more about how much the two-time "MVP" Nash totally sucks at defense that it does about Rondo's crossover.

I wouldn't be dissing Nash much, he accounts for 90% of the Suns' baskets one way or another.....and Rondo got schooled a few times off picks last night, of course that's not so flashy as the crossover.

No doubt, Rondo brought his game last night. His steals at the beginning of the 3rd started that run, IMO.

Nash is overrated because he's white and his team scores a lot of points (i.e. doesn't play defense).

In the big game, Nash is always the guy to make a few turnovers in the last couple minutes to sink his teams championship hopes.

Are you serious? Yes, he is a bad defender but he is without a doubt not overrated.

When Nash is named MVP two years in a row, yes, I think he's overrated. Has he been most exciting player in the league? To some, though I'd take LBJ and Kobe over him as exciting any day. But a dude who doesn't play defense and turns the ball over the way he does - especially in big games - is not the MVP IMO.

But he's damn good, of course. But still overrated.

Yeah, Nash is at least been the second or third best player on his own team the past few years so he has that going for him.

I like that there is no positive correlation between scoring and assists.

bad? that does not do it justice. he is the one of the worst, if not the worst defender in the league. i have see more than one team use the lets drop the ball into whomever nash is guarding stratey.

overrated? i don't know if thats the right word. what i will say thoug- he gets a bigger free pass for his defense than any star that i have ever watched play in the nba. hell writers even used knocked kobe on his defense the last couple of years when they discounted his efforts while prasing nash. the curious part about that though is kobe is an all nba defender...

Yes he has fallen off a bit this year and Chris Paul and Deron Williams have probably overtaken him (just), but personally I don't see how you can call him overrated.

He is the best point guard since Stockton and he made Pheonix an instant contender as soon as got there. I think he is more than worthy of the two MVP's with the only player worthy of taking them off him being Duncan.

I think people get carried away bashing Nash's defense. Defense at the PG spot is just not that critical. And you can clearly see that looking at Nash's +/- numbers.

Yes Rondo beat Nash badly but he beats everyone badly at the PG spot. It's still up to the PG to navigate around the second set of defenders (the bigs) and score.

Guys like Telfair and the rest of NBA PG's routinely beat their defenders - ever since the hanchecking rule was disallowed. Even the quickest guys in the league like Rondo can get beat..

Pete,

What the plus-minus numbers won't show is how smart teams will target Nash. His defense is just as bad as advertised.

here is a good example. couple of years ago in the playoffs, nash gotten beaten badly by both maggette and cassell in the first few games- to remedy that, dantoni switched nash over to quinton ross, a career 4.8 pg scorer. ross dropped a career high 18 pts in the first half.

Ed
I don't think Nash has fallen off on defense this year- he has always been this bad. the difference this year, is that in prior years, either bell or marion ( more usually marion) picked up nash' guy. now, marion is gone and bell has noticeably lost a few steps (did anyone of you catch billups abusing him Monday night? what a dominant performance by Mr. Big Shot).

I disagree, I think because so many PGs create now from penetrating defenses at the PG spot is just as critical to have a good defending PG as it is at the wings.

If you have a good defender at the PG spot you can bring the most of the opposing PGs in this league down to 50% efficency on their offense and that shows with a lack of rythmn in the opposing teams offense.
