Is the Lakers' Medical Staff the worst in the leauge?

Post#1 » by Farsi Man » Fri Mar 28, 2008 12:34 am

The Lakers fans have been complaining about this for a while but I'm starting to agree more and more. It seems their players returns are always delayed and they get more ankle sprains than any other team.

They just said on TNT Dirk is probably coming back before 2 weeks from his ankle and knee sprains while it took Kwame Brown months from the same injury he had earlier in the year.

Odom sprained his knee last year and they kept delaying his return it went from a month to like 2 months.

Bynum's return has been delayed a month.

Carmelo and Raja Bell both had moderate ankle sprains and came back perfectly normal in a game or two. First they said 2 weeks for Gasol now they're delaying that. Raja even said when he came back he felt 100% and had no pain.

Chris Mihm had an ankle sprain against Seattle in the 05-06 season he missed half of that season, the entire next season and only played 5 games this season because of that exact same ankle sprain.

What the heck is wrong with the Lakers training staff? Does anyone else have these problems?

I wish there a rule requiring people to go to medical school before they could complain about training staffs

No two same injuries are the same, to an extent.

No two people heal in the same manner & time.

Maybe one is more cautious (LA) than other teams around the league....

It's Orlando's and it's not even close, our trainer can't even treat cuts. :(

Gary Vitti has been doing his thing for like 300 years. Probably knows a thing or two. He also came up with that shoulder supporting shirt for Kobe that allowed him to play and was copied by other trainers. It's not the trainer's fault the players can't stay healthy. Both Bynum's and Kwame's injury looked pretty disgusting when it happened, so it was expected.

Andrew Bynum: See David Lee last year.

You were kidding yourselves with the early prognosis.
Jazz: Under reconstruction, we'll be back.

No, it's the Rockets. Don't even compare the Lakers medical staff to the Rockets, the Rockets is probably one of the top 2 worst in the league. They know it and they will get fired in the summer.

Los Angeles is ranked as a city with some of the most advanced medical technology/facilities in the world.

^That's why Derek Fisher chose to come back to the Lakers. His daughter is suffering from some sort of cancer to the eye.

Having said that, it's ridiculous the amount of injuries sustained by the Lakers players over the past 3 seasons. I wouldn't mind the Phoenix medical staff after what they did with Nash, Shaq and Amare.

8 weeks for Bynum?

Just because injuries have the same name doesn't mean they are the same injury and have the same time table for return.

Also, there is a difference in urgency. Dirk has to get back ASAP to even have a chance to make the playoffs. With Bynum and Gasol, you don't want them rushed back, you want them at 100% for the playoffs.

If Dirk comes back too soon and aggravates his injury, they are no worse off than they would be waiting longer. If Bynum or Gasol come back too soon and aggravate their injury, that could be the difference between a finals berth and a first round exit.

The injuries are really just bad breaks. They really have nothing to do with the medical staff. Bynum, Gasol, and Ariza all landed on someone's foot. I don't know if any of you guys have ever done that, but it hurts like hell and takes a long time to recover from.

I think every team thinks their medical staff sucks. But the lakers just caught some bad breaks the last few years. It's been really frustrating going through the season thinking "what could of been if" we stayed healthy. Injuries happen in any sport. Some are preventable and some, like Andrew Bynum's case aren't. It's the luck of the draw I guess. But it does seem like the Lakers and Houston are always on the bottom end of it.
