Why do people say Gasol will choke in the playoffs?

Post#1 » by Farsi Man » Fri Mar 28, 2008 8:06 pm

Here are his playoff stats

20 on 49% shooting/6.4/2.7/1.5

his regular season stats are only a little better

18.8 on 51% shooting/8.6/3.1/1.8

Their opponents:

the 2nd place Spurs
the 1st place Suns
the 2nd place Mavs

Probably the 3 most succesful playoff teams over the last couple years.

Why is Gasol considered a big playoff choker?

he's not considered a choker, he's considered unproven.

you've been giving joke posters too much attention if you think people consider him a big time choker.

i'm not sure ppl say he is a choker.

his team as whole didn't get it done. thats not all on him.
the fact that his teams didn't win a single game in the playoffs is kinda weak though. maybe they were a weak minded team.

It's telling that he couldn't get his team to win at least one game.

But obviously his team will fare much better this year.

He won't choke b/c he not the best player. Kobe will soak up the spotlight and Gasol will have a chance to just play instead of 'carry'.

Like dcash said, he's basically unproven.

Also, this will be Gasol's first playoffs where he'll be in bigger, longer/tougher series. So from my stand-point, despite being the 2nd man now, it'll be kinda interesting to see how he goes.

Probably the same reason they call McGrady a choker even though his playoff numbers are very good.

Exactly. He's proven he can win at a high level with a decent team. I think a lot of people overlook his FIBA accomplishments, or just aren't aware of them.

Bigger, longer/tougher than the Suns, Spurs, and the Mavs?

The fact is, that as "the guy" he couldn't do it even with decent players around him, he really has to be more of a role player surrounded by stars who will carry more of the load.

I wouldn't pay attention to his record with the Grizzlies..Pau Gasol isn't a #1 option on a team that could get past the 1st round..simple as that..it has nothing to do with him being a "choker" or anything..

He didn't play in the championship game, his foot was broken along with thw Grizzlies season that year.

It was the decent team that won the championship, Pau had nothing to do with it except for moral support for that one.

Sept. 2, 2006 -- The Memphis Grizzlies announced today that All-Star forward Pau Gasol will require surgery to repair a fracture of the fifth metatarsal in his left foot. Further details will be made available later this week.
Gasol suffered the injury late in the fourth quarter of Spain's victory over Argentina in the semifinals of the FIBA World Championship of Basketball. He will not play in the gold-medal game against Greece on Sunday.

Yeh he got the mvp for the tournament but, Greece had done the hard work by defeating the U.S.
