Although I have stopped reading all articles with "Stern" in the headline, it seems to me that every passing day makes the Sonics situation seem more and more dire. As far as I'm concerned, we have one simple ray of hope left and that lies in at least 15 NBA ownership groups. Now while I can only name about 10 of the owners off the top of my head, I am basing all of the following on a couple assumptions:

1. All of the NBA owners have mass $
2. Each of the owners actually earned that $

Now maybe this says more about my outlook on the world than the reality of the situation, but I would hope that each and every NBA owner actually earned the resources to become NBA owners, by being extremely capable at whatever it is they

Quick question. I don't know the ins and outs of legalities and process of the relocation. Does it just take a simple majority of owners to say no?

Here's my quick analyzation of the owners...

Paul Allen - Agreed - Votes NO. Microsoft link plus the I-5 rivalry is good for business.

Mark Cuban - Agreed - Votes NO. Will do anything he can to piss off Stern.

Some other interesting candidates -

Robert Johnson, Charlotte. - Black people hate Oklahoma. Black people like Seattle. Votes NO.

Cablevision, NYK
Comcast, PHI - TV industries like bigger markets. Period. Votes NO x 2.

Dan Gilbert, CLE - Bought a minor league hockey team in Utah and moved it to Cleveland, similar to Bennett. Votes YES.

Abe Pollin, WAS - Jewish, good friend with Stern. Votes YES.

William Davidson, DET - Also Jewish, votes with Stern. BUT has owned the Pistons for 33 years, understanding the value of continuity and tradition... I'm torn on this one, but I'll say he votes YES.

Leslie Alexander, HOU - Weird hippie type. Probably votes NO because Seattle is eco-friendly?

Rick Devos - ORL - Republican! Don't trust! Votes YES.

Herb Kohl - MIL - Democrat! Harvard! Smart! Please vote NO!

Maloofs - SAC - Who ever knows about these cats?

Jerry Buss - LAL - His wife or daughter or somehting was on the initial relocation committee that just toured OKC and approved the site. Votes YES.

Donald Sterling - LAC - Jew. Goes with Stern. Votes YES.

Glen Taylor - MIN - Republican. Grew up on a farm. Votes YES.

Bruce Ratner - NJN - Moving Nets to Brooklyn soon. Likes relocation. Likes stealing franchises from areas. Votes YES.

Peter Holt - San Antonia - Interesting here.... Somewhat saved the Spurs from moving to another city. But is also convinced Big League sports can exist in Small Town America... I'm torn. Guesses he votes YES.

George Shinn - Already pulled the "buy me and arena or I move the team" card out in Charlotte a few years back. Votes YES. (Plus maybe he can relocated to Seattle after he's alienated 2 cities...)

Guys, those owners are always doing what their commissioner and other owners(Clay Clay) are suggesting them and outside of Cuban and maybe someone like Miller(Jazz owner) and Allen, i hardly see anyone voting no on this. And the only way they(outside of Cuban) vote no, is if there's an arena remodel plan before they vote.

Though, if that arena remodel plan is agreed on by then, then i expect them to tell Stern to find a solution for Seattle, cause they're already said to be in talks about Regions/Cities that can and those that can't support a team, because of their revenue sharing.

So don't get down if they vote yes on that relocation request by Bennett, cause that's what they're expected to do. Though, i still believe that there will be an NBA Team in Seattle, when all is said and done. Something's also really fishy that there are reports out right now, that say that the Memphis Grizzlies are for sale to the highes bidder(tough, it would cost $100 mil to get out of their lease), just after those comments by that New Jersey owner and Stern talking about returning to markets.

That was definitely antisemitic, but I don't think Argyle was trying to be offensive. The comments were just stupid. Take this comment for example:

This is just as stupid as the antisemitic reasons. The partisan reasons were kind of silly as well (Devos and Kohl), but not very offensive. In short, I don't think that Argyle deserves a suspension.

Wow people are sure ready to pull the trigger after nothing more than a realistic analysis. I mean seriously, there are usually pretty obvious correlations between people's preferences and race/religion/interests. There's a reason why Hilary Clinton's strongest demographic is old white women. You might want to actually consider intention before you scan a post for key words like 'black', 'Jewish' or whatever it is you want to b#$ch about.

I actually thought it was a good outsider analysis. While it may be impossible to get a split or majority vote at the BOG, I think it would send a HUGE message if we could get around 10 owners to vote against relocation. At least it would get the collective wheels turning on ousting Stern as the Commish.

I agree with a lot of Argyle's conclusions, except I find them a little bit too hopeful at times (e.g. Alexander and Kohl). I was not really offended. The problem is that shared demographics are not reasons for decisions. They may be indicators of decisions. We may debate whether they are good or bad indicators. But they are certainly not a reasons.* So, Argyle really made very little analysis, if any.

* EDIT: Well, that is not exactly true. It is possible that shared demographic could be a reason for making a decision. That is, conceiving of such a situation entails no logical contradictions. But, if one were to use shared demographic as a reason for her decision, it would be a very, very poor reason. This is because such a reason would be pretty irrelevant.

You're generalizing a population of a particular geographic location just as I generalized a population of people based on their religion and political affiliation. The only difference was that I was half joking and I think you're serious here.

It's a true fact, just as Ben H and McG pointed out, that people have similar ideologies as people from similar backgrounds.
